Islands of Adventure - Quick General Update

Sunday is usually a day when people in general rest from work. Well, we do too, but at the same time we want to provide you always the best photo-updates, even on the weekend. Therefore, here you are a quick - but interesting - photo-update of Universal's Islands of Adventure, which includes a small behind-the-scenes look at some Seussian creatures that are resting in a backstage area. Let's start:

Epcot's Food & Wine Festival by the Numbers

The Food & Wine Festival is always full of unexpected surprises. Guests who try a certain type of food from a foreign country may fall in love with it, without even knowing it existed. That's why people love this festival, and that's why it becomes more and more important each year. Even the city of Orlando, seeing the success of Epcot's event, used to hold a very similar festival, called "The Food & Wine" festival, of course (on a side note, unfortunately this year the festival will NOT be held in Orlando, due to the fact that the sponsor of the event was sold to another company).
So, if you're among all the lovers of the Food & Wine festival, then you have to read this interesting press release which lists some fun facts about the festival. Enjoy!: _________________________________________________________________________

New Sponsor for 'Living With the Land' & More

Did you hear? Living with Land, one of Epcot's original attractions, and "Crush 'n' Gusher", have both received a new sponsor... Chiquita. Read more, from Wesh 2 News: _________________________________________________________________________
Walt Disney World and Chiquita announced a partnership Friday that will bring produce to Disney's theme parks and cruise ships.
As part of the agreement, Chiquita will sponsor the Crush 'n' Gusher, a water coaster at Typhoon Lagoon as well as Living with the Land at Epcot.
Chiquita said in a press release it would also participate in runDisney marathon events, beginning with the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend in September.
The agreement will also bring more Fresh Express salad items to locations around Walt Disney World.

Universal CityWalk: Mini-Golf Construction and More

Today, we'll be checking out together how the work on the new Hollywood Drive-In Mini-Golf are progressing, as well as a general look around Universal's CityWalk, which has now become "The Entertainment Capital of Orlando," mimicking the signature motto of Universal Studios Hollywood's CityWalk (which is "The Entertainment Capital of Los Angeles).
Let's take a look:

'Upcountry Landing' Kiosk Opens at Animal Kingdom

A new frozen beverage location has been added in the Asian themed land of Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park. Check it out: _________________________________________________________________________

Epcot Update: New 'Kabuki Cafe' & More (PART 1)

A lot of minor additions are coming to Epcot, most of them being inside both Innoventions East and West. Also, we will check out the new Kabuki Cafe (formerly 'Kaki-Gori') location, which has opened just recently in the Japanese pavilion, and which replaced the temporary-looking cart. Let's start:

Epcot Update: New 'Kabuki Cafe' & More (PART 2)

Have you already checked out PART 1 of this update before viewing part two? If yes, then let's continue where we left, that is, from the great Fountain of Nations plaza:

New Partner Joins Orlando Theme Park News

You may have noticed that we have done some minor adjustments to the site in the past few weeks, but we're far from done. For now, they've been mostly technical adjustments, but in the future, you should see even more additions. For now, we wanted to introduce you our newest partner, which we thank a lot for choosing Orlando Theme Parks News: offers a variety of discount tickets on all the great theme parks of Orlando, as well as great deals on many Orlando attractions, like the dinner shows. If you're interested in coming to Orlando, and want to be sure to have good deals, while also having valid tickets (you may know how many scams have been reported on this matter), then you should check out on their new official page on our site, "Discount Tickets!"
Thanks again to DW tickets for sponsoring our site, and thanks to all our readers, who continue to read our news and updates every day!

LEGOLAND Florida Unveils More New Models

A new, "prehistoric" LEGO model, along with a reproduction of a  very well-know character have been installed inside the new LEGOLAND Florida theme park, which will open in just 77 days. Take a look at them, from the park's official Facebook page: _________________________________________________________________________
Check out our new dino in Land of Adventure! He is one of many fun models you'll encounter when we open on October 15. Can find our construction Minilander?

The House of Innoventions Reopens - VIDEO

Just a few days ago, a 'refurbished' walking tour has reopened at Innoventions East. It is "The House of Innoventions", which showcases some of the latest gadgets available on the market that could make your life... well, more interesting! Take a look at this video, taken by the OTPN staff:

Quite interesting, isn't it? If you're thinking "most of these things are not really from the future...", you' re right. That's why the attraction is not called "The House of The Future" but instead "The House of Innoventions"... What do you think? Are the advertisements a bit too noticeable? Did they make enough changes? In our humble opinion, no. They changed very little, and it took them all these months? Anyway, glad it's back. it's much better than just having an empty space.

New Exhibits Open at 'Walt Disney: One Man's Dream'

Do you remember that huge wall where it said "THE LEGACY CONTINUES - Coming Soon?" Well, it looks like they've finally decided to add these new exhibits that we were all looking for. This new addition was actually scheduled to be ready by Fall 2010, but it got a very long delay.
Let's take a look together at what has been introduced. This includes a lot of Fantasyland artworks too:

Epcot Cast Member Show Support for Norway

A very terrorist attack has recently struck the whole country of Norway, with the result of many people who died, and a lot more who got seriously injured. For this reason, cast members of the Norway pavilion at Epcot had the opportunity of showing their love to all those who lost their lives, even though they are very far from home. Take a look:  _________________________________________________________________________
Support for Norwegian Cast Members

Following news of the tragic events in Oslo, Norway last week, our hearts, prayers and support went out to our cast at the Norway pavilion at Epcot. This included opening the phone lines inside the Programs Office and at Disney Service Center at Vista Way, allowing cast members to check on loved ones back home free of charge.  In a true testament to their strength and caring, the Norway cast members created a backstage memorial to honor their fallen countrymen, while preserving high levels of guest service on stage so that our g…

Fun Spot: Arcade's Exterior Completed and More

Fun Spot U.S.A. has recently opened a brand-new game arcade, as you may have seen in one of our latest park updates. On one of our most recent visits, we noticed that the last logo that needed to be installed has now been placed, so we can finally say that the arcade is now complete! Take a look:

REMINDER: Fairies Moving Back to MK Tomorrow

Just a minor reminder for those who will be visiting the parks, starting TOMORROW, July 28, 2011: _________________________________________________________________________
Reminder - Fairies Return to Magic Kingdom Park July 28, 2011
Earlier this year, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends moved to Epcot to meet and greet guests as part of the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. As we continue looking for the perfect place for Tink to call home, she will be moving to Magic Kingdom Park to a new location inside the Adventureland Veranda. While the Veranda is being prepared for their July 28 arrival, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends will continue to meet and greet guests at Epcot through July 27, near MouseGear in Future World. _________________________________________________________________________

As the reminder says, today, is their last day of permanence at Epcot. We can't wait to see what they've done inside the Adventureland Verandah! See you soon!

Fantasyland Update - Construction Walls Extended

Today, we've got a brief Fantasyland update, which covers all the attractions in Fantasyland, including the Skyway, Beauty and the Beast's area, the Little Mermaid's area, Dumbo, and more! We hope you enjoy it.

It looks like the work on the Skyway have stalled. No vertical construction, the old Skyway clock-tower still untouched... We hope they'll continue to make some progress soon:

New AMPVenture Experience Now Open at Old Town

Old Town is renovating itself. Many new additions are currently in the works, and some of them are already ready to be experienced by guests. Indeed, yesterday we had the pleasure of being present during the media day for the new "Pepsi AMPVenture Experience," a family attraction that includes a four-story ropes course, a very high rock wall and a zip line (due to some minor delays, the zip line will be opened later this week).
Let's take a look at some information about this great, new addition, including a lot of pictures and videos: _________________________________________________________________________

The Disney Look... to the past! (July 23-29)

Today, it is time to take our time machine, to check out the history of the Walt Disney Company! Let's see what has happened during this same week... in the past!: _________________________________________________________________________
This Week in Disney History: July 23-29

July 24, 1966 - New Orleans Square is dedicated at Disneyland Park Geometry enthusiasts may be disappointed to learn that the first land added to Disneyland Park after its opening is not actually square in shape, but despite the misnomer, this charming slice of the Crescent City is among the most intricate and unique sections of the theme park. With highly detailed belle epoch architecture reminiscent of the French Quarter, New Orleans Square rewards guests who peer into its window displays, sample taste sensations like the Monte Cristo at Café Orleans and clam chowder from the Royal Street Veranda, or find picturesque hidden nooks and corners like Le Court de Anges (the Court of Angels.) The land al…

Magic Kingdom Update - More Refurbishments

Magic Kingdom is already receiving a lot of attention due to the new, enormous Fantasyland Expansion. This doesn't mean that Fantasyland is the only 'land' of the park that is receiving attention. Indeed, many other areas of the park have been taken over by tarps, used to hide the work being done on the buildings' facades, and according to some rumors, not all the work being done is just to repaint or clean them. There may be something else involved. Something like an interactive game.
But, we'll touch on that later. First of all, let's check out the Magic Kingdom in general:

I-Walk Orlando May Include a Sea Life

Do you remember that fantastic project that involved the Merlin Company (the same company that also owns LEGOLAND Florida), which is to include a huge Ferris wheel, a Madame Tussaud's museum, and some nice shops? To refresh your memory, please, read this article.
Well, it looks like it will also include a Sea Life! They are huge, two-story buildings which house hundreds of different fish and mammals. Screamscape reported this today: _________________________________________________________________________
Orlando Eye / Madame Tussauds / I-Walk Orlando - (7/25/11) Many have been wondering just what the mystery third Merlin attraction planned for Orlando’s I-Walk attraction area. Previously I had heard that a Dungeon attraction may have been in the works [...] However the latest rumor suggests that instead of a Dungeon, Merlin may opt to make the more perplexing choice of adding a SeaLife Aquarium… within very close proximity to SeaWorld Orlando. Not the brightest idea in the barrel…

OOTL: Historic Bridge Coming to California Adventure

Disney's... ehm, I mean, Disney California Adventure is still in the middle (well, maybe near the end) of a huge park-wide renovation, which includes a radical change of many of the park buildings' facades. One of the structures that will receive a "face-lift" is the famous Golden Gate Bridge (the bright red bridge that also serves as a passage for the resort's monorail). Take a look at these nice concept art: _________________________________________________________________________
Historic Glendale-Hyperion Bridge Coming to California Adventure
Work began on July 17 at Disney California Adventure Park entrance to transform the Golden Gate Bridge into a re-creation of the historic Glendale-Hyperion Bridge. The rendering below shows the completed bridge at the new Buena Vista Street.

'Pirates of the Caribbean' at Shanghai: What to Expect?

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride is one of the most recognized Disney rides in the world. It has received even more attention since the release of the very popular movie series, which shares the same name of the ride. Going to the different Magic Kingdom parks around the world, you may notice that each version of the ride has something different.
The California version has a very long bayou at the beginning of the ride, and has two waterfalls. The Florida version only has one water fall, but also has a much more detailed queue, and the area where the ride is located has a great theming that matches the ride. At Tokyo, the ride is almost exactly like the one in Florida, but the exterior is the copy of the California version. Disneyland Paris has what many consider the best version ever created... at least until now.
Indeed, you know that a brand-new Disney theme park is currently being built in China. it will become the "Shanghai Disney Resort", and it will feat…

'Club Cool' Extends its Opening Hours

The Coca Cola-sponsored store at Epcot, "Club Cool", is changing its opening times. Previously, Club Cool opened at 11 a.m and closed at 7 p.m., before the park's actual closure. Earlier this month, it was announced that Club Cool would have changed its opening hours, allowing it to stay open for two additional hours each day. The new time is the following:
11 a.m. - 9 p.m.
What does this mean? Well, you can now take advantage of the free Coke beverages until the park closes, and there's even a bonus: Beverly will be there too. You can't go wrong with that. If you've tasted it, you know...

Islands of Adventure Update - The Triceratops Return

Welcome to a new Islands of Adventure update! This week, we'll take a look around the park, which has reopened the Triceratops Discovery Trail, along with some other smaller locations around the park. Let's see:

Hollywood Studios Ceases to Hold 'ESPN Weekend'

Sad news for ESPN fans. The famous "ESPN The Weekend" event, that has been held for years at Disney's Hollywood Studios, has been discontinued. Here's the news, from the Disney Parks Blog:

Disney’s ESPN The Weekend Update
One thing that’s always struck me is our commitment to regularly reviewing the experiences we provide to our guests and challenging ourselves to bring new opportunities to life. Occasionally, this results in something coming to an end, as is the case with what I’m sharing today. In order to focus our efforts on ESPN’s growing year-round presence at Walt Disney World Resort, we have decided to no longer host ESPN The Weekend. As you may know, the event was first created in 2004 in support of ESPN’s 25th anniversary and, along with ESPN Club, served as ESPN’s first significant presence here. While the event has continued for seven more successful years, our relationship with ESPN has evolved significantly and positively.  This has resulted in…

AMPventure to Open Soon at Old Town

Old Town is coming back. It is finally time for the park to make a comeback. As we reported a week ago, we're going to see a lot of new additions here in the next few months. One of the biggest new additions will be the "AMPventure Experience", which will include a multi-story ropes course, a zip-line and a rock climbing wall. To get additional information on this exciting project, take a look at the following pictures and more, courtesy of Old Town: _________________________________________________________________________
Get ready to be AMP’d at Old Town. The all new AMPventure Experience is a state of the art adventure course comprising of a four story Ropes Challenge Course, an incredible ‘out and back’ Zip Line and a 35 ft adrenaline rushing Rock Climbing Wall. The installation marks the beginning of a new and exciting Old Town which has been taken over by a new management entity, namely, Brothers Enterprises Management Group (BEMG).

Ride the Jungle Cruise... From Your Home

If you periodically check out OTPN's official You Tube channel, you may have watched our latest uploaded videos, including a Fantasyland update (from last week), a video of the "Welcome" show at the Magic Kingdom and... well, a complete ride-through video of the Jungle Cruise.
If you miss the Walt Disney World resort and you don't have the time an opportunity to go there now, videos are the closest things to feel like you're right there. Check out this video of the Jungle Cruise, and try to pretend you're right there with the crowd (We apologize for the abrupt start...):

Some areas of the ride need to be refurbished, or at least that's what most of us think, but the ride is always very effective and funny, thanks to the capabilities of the skippers. Since most of us have ridden the Jungle Cruise, why not sharing a story or experience that you had during a past vacation?

CityWalk Update - Mini-Golf, Churrascaria and More

Last time we checked out CityWalk, we saw the progress being done on the new "Hollywood Drive-In" Mini-Golf. Today, we're going to see how far they've gone with the work, along with a look at the new signs of the Churrascaria, just outside the "Latin Quarter" restaurant.
First of all, here's the logo of the new mini-golf course, which looks very old-style:

Sand Sculpture Festival in Belgium... in Disney Style

A quite nice event has taken place in Belgium, where some artists have created sand sculptures that represent some Disney characters and other very famous icons of Disneyland Paris. Take a look: _________________________________________________________________________
Sand Sculpture Festival Features Disneyland Paris
If it were a town, it might be said that Disneyland Paris, with its attractions and characters, now has a sister city in Blankenberge, Belgium. There, an incredible likeness of the Parisian resort has been fashioned in sand. Thirty-eight artists from around the world participated in the Sand Sculpture Festival in Blankenberge - officially the largest in the world. They made a sand castle - a 46-foot-high Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant - but they didn't stop there.  They made 125 sand sculptures evoking the Disney Magical Moments Festival at Disneyland Paris.

From scenes capturing unforgettable moments in that resort's two parks to the beloved Disney and Pixar…

Universal Studios Update - JAWS Down and More

It is finally time to take a look at Universal Studios Florida. This week we'll see a closed JAWS, an unfortunately open Fear Factor LIVE!, Jimmy Neutron, and much more. Let's start right away:

New Additions Debut at MK's "Welcome" Show

Some new, minor additions were added just a few months ago to one of the shows at the Magic Kingdom. Indeed, the "Welcome" Show, which takes place every morning, just before the park opens, has received the addition of a "talking" Mickey Mouse, some 'new' characters on the train, and lastly, the confetti that used to be launched at the end of the show have been replaced by fireworks (only one blast, of course).
Take a look by yourself at the complete show with these new additions, and compare it with other similar videos taken before January 2011:

Nice, huh? Next time you visit the Magic Kingdom, be sure to get there early to see this show! Also, the park offers a lot of street entertainment during the early morning hours that you can't see afterwards!

4D Theaters and Dark Rides in SeaWorld's Horizon?

Screamscape has posted some incredibly interesting rumors about SeaWorld Orlando this morning. Indeed, it looks like in 2012 we'll receive a new 4D Theater, along with a small renovation of Shamu's Happy Harbor. But, the real deal should come in 2013, when the park will move the penguins in a new, better home, and... a new dark ride will be finally introduced! Read more, from Screamscape: _________________________________________________________________________
2012 - Turtles 4D & Happy Harbor Water Fortress - Rumor - (7/20/11) I’ve heard from a sharp eyed guest that construction has begun behind the current Manatee attraction area for the park’s 2012 attraction, which is said to be Turtles 4D, a edited down in-ark 4D theater version of this summer’s “Turtle: The Incredible Journey” film. (see below)     From what I’ve been led to understand the current Manatee attraction area will be revamped into a Florida wildlife themed area and serve as home to alligators, turtl…

Lightning McQueen Added to 'Lights, Motors, Action!'

Yesterday, the official Disney Parks Blog shared with us more news about the introduction of Lightning McQueen (the main character of the Disney-Pixar movies of "Cars") in the "Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show" at Disney's Hollywood Studios:

Lightning McQueen Joins Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show

Earlier this summer, we broke the news that “Cars 2” star Lightning McQueen was set to join Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in July. We just received word that Disney’s famous racecar is revved up and ready to make his debut performance in the show beginning [July 19th, 2011]...
So, beginning yesterday, the segment of Herbie was removed. To see Herbie for one last time, take a look at this video we took just a few weeks ago:

New Flavors Coming to the 16th Food & Wine Festival

It is almost that time of the year again. This year's International Food & Wine Festival will be held between September 30 and November 13, 2011 at Epcot. As every year, new specialties have been added to the already huge food and wine items that the park offers during that time of the year. Let's take a look at some of them: _________________________________________________________________________
The 16th International Food & Wine Festival at Epcot
The 16th annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival September 30-November 13 will feature wine regions from around the world and international marketplaces with tastes that include artisan cheeses and savory bites from more than 25 countries and regions including Hawaii, Scandinavia, South Korea, the Caribbean islands and Portugal.

Dave & Buster's Orlando - Grand Opening Day (Part 1)

A brand-new restaurant has opened along International Drive, one of the most important visitors corridor of Central Florida, but this is not your typical chain restaurant. Indeed, it is a Dave & Buster's location, which means that there you can "eat, drink, and play" at the same time! Well, maybe you should first eat and drink, and then play, otherwise, it could end up being a bit of a mess...
Anyway, the much-anticipated grand opening day of the new Dave & Buster's has finally arrived. It was yesterday, Monday, July 18, 2011. We were not able to enter through the majestic atrium of this new, great building exactly when it opened, around 11 a.m., but it looked like they did not hold any special opening day party or celebration. They just opened to the public, like it was a normal day. But, for those of us who had never seen a Dave & Buster's restaurant before, it didn' matter. We just wanted to check out the place, and so we did.
To avoid spendin…

Dave & Buster's Orlando - Grand Opening Day (Part 2)

Welcome to part 2 of this special update of the new Dave & Buster's Orlando. After having seen the exterior of the building in PART 1 of this update, it is time to go inside to check out the arcade and the restaurant. Are you ready? Yes? then, let's go in!
Oh, by the way, before we even start, we wanted to apologize if some of the pictures of the interior are a bit dark, but we wanted to avoid using the flash, especially since it was full of people playing, so the flash would have disturbed guests. Thanks for understanding.
The first thing you see on your left, as you enter the main floor is the "Welcome Center" (and, by the way, some of the team members were holding the door open for guests to go in. We don't know if it will always be like that, but we hope so). There, you can buy your playing cards (that you can also use to buy food), and you can also ask anything about how things work, in case you (like us) have never been in a Dave & Buster's loca…

SeaWorld Hiring 650 People in July 2011

This month, it could be your chance to go to work to one of the best theme parks in Orlando! Indeed, according to an article of the Orlando Sentinel, SeaWorld Orlando (along with Aquatica and Discovery Cove) is looking to hire quite a few people in many different position. Read More, from the Orlando Sentinel: _________________________________________________________________________
'Hiring blitz' this week for SeaWorld
SeaWorld Orlando says it will conduct a "hiring blitz" this week as it seeks to bring aboard enough seasonal workers to handle the remainder of the busy summer months.
SeaWorld, along with its smaller, sister parks Aquatica and Discovery Cove, wants to add more workers in its operations, culinary and merchandise departments. Aquatica, a water park, and Discovery Cove, a limited-admission boutique park, are also seeking additional lifeguards.
SeaWorld, like Orlando's other big theme park operators, began searching for summer workers back in the spr…

The Disney Look... to the past! (July 16-22)

It is Monday once again. What does it mean? It means that it is time to check out our weekly section, that takes a glimpse at the past of the Walt Disney Company: _______________________________________________________________________
This Week in Disney History: July 16-22

July 17, 1955 - Disneyland Park opens in Anaheim, Calif. On 160 acres where orange groves once grew, 30 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, the magical place Walt Disney dreamed of as he watched his two daughters ride the Griffith Park carousel first opened for an international media preview. Art Linkletter, Bob Cummings and future president Ronald Reagan brought the fun live to a nationwide audience on ABC, welcoming guests, including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jerry Lewis, Debbie Reynolds and Fess Parker, while taking viewers for the first time into the Disneyland worlds of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy. Though the problems off camera were many, such as ladies' high heels sinking into fres…

Suites Renovation at the Contemporary Resort

Will you be staying at Disney's Contemporary Resort during or before September 2011? Then, you should be careful of the crane! No, you shouldn't be scared of the bird (Sandhill Cranes are very friendly), but you should be aware that your view from your room may be affected by another kind of crane. A working crane. Take a look at this important advisory:

Crane at Disney's Contemporary Resort through late Sept. 2011
As work progresses on the new wellness suites on the 14th floor, a crane will be outside the resort through late September. The following text is being placed in an in-room flier in Guest rooms during this work:

More Information on Mouse Gear's Renovation

Some months ago (yes, this may sound old news to many of you), we reported that Epcot's biggest Disney shop, "Mouse Gear", had received a fairly major renovation. This week, the official Disney Parks Blog shares some more information on the subject. Here's the article:

Mouse Gear 2.0 at Epcot

One aspect of working for Disney that I enjoy is the culture of continuous improvement. You may recall that I love quotes from Walt Disney and I recently found one that summarized his approach to improvements at Disney Parks: “Whenever I go on a ride, I’m always thinking of what’s wrong with the thing and how it can be improved.” A great example of this philosophy in action is now found at MouseGear in Epcot. I recently visited this merchandise location to speak with Mike Myers, Manager for Merchandise Operations at Epcot, about some of the enhancements.

One of the true highlights of the park is without any doubt the rapids ride, called "Roa's Rapids". Once you get in, you can't get out, for multiple reasons. First of all, the rapids are extreme…
