I-Walk Orlando May Include a Sea Life

Do you remember that fantastic project that involved the Merlin Company (the same company that also owns LEGOLAND Florida), which is to include a huge Ferris wheel, a Madame Tussaud's museum, and some nice shops? To refresh your memory, please, read this article.

Well, it looks like it will also include a Sea Life! They are huge, two-story buildings which house hundreds of different fish and mammals. Screamscape reported this today:

Orlando Eye / Madame Tussauds / I-Walk Orlando - (7/25/11) Many have been wondering just what the mystery third Merlin attraction planned for Orlando’s I-Walk attraction area. Previously I had heard that a Dungeon attraction may have been in the works [...] However the latest rumor suggests that instead of a Dungeon, Merlin may opt to make the more perplexing choice of adding a SeaLife Aquarium… within very close proximity to SeaWorld Orlando. Not the brightest idea in the barrel… especially when one of Merlin’s primary shareholders also owns the entire SeaWorld chain as well. Now adding a SeaLife on to Legoland Florida may be a better idea, given the more isolated environment, but on I-Drive, I think I’d rather see a Dungeon myself [...].

To us, this sounds like a fantastic news. Yes, we would have liked to see a Sea Life near LEGOLAND Florida too, but this piece of information may be the confirmation that the project is not dead. Indeed, we have not heard anything about it for months.

What do you think? Would a Sea Life be successful despite the location being extremely near SeaWorld Orlando? In our opinion, yes, it would be successful. SeaWorld is a very, very different experience. It is a full-day theme park, which also costs like a theme park. Sea Life, on the other hand, is a fully-themed attraction that only takes a couple of hours to see, and also costs much less. Please, share your opinion with us!

  1. I stay in the Uk and I have a Sealife centre near me and to be honest they are nothing special. After you have been once they don't change anything it just stays the same.

The difference with the dungeons is they are specific to their location, usually based on local myths and stories and each and every dungeon is different than each other. Every few years something changes and is replaced with something new, so keeping it new.

Personal opinion I would prefer to have a dungeon than a sealife centre :).

  3. although i haven't been there yet, there is a new Aquarium type attraction called shark reef at Alton Towers, one of Merlin's UK parks. I'm told this is a greatly updated and improved version of the sealife centre which i agree, are nothing special, and no competition for seaworld

If Merlin are offering something new and innovative in the aquarium field it MAY be worth a look

btw Merlin have a "dungeon" type attraction within Madame Tussauds in London (the Chamber of Horrors) - if they build a Tussauds waxworks and include this, would they need a stand-alone dungeon attraction?
