Downtown Disney Officially Becomes Disney Springs Today

While construction is still i full swing around the Downtown Disney area, another important milestone was reached today. After more than two years since the original announcement, Downtown Disney officially became Disney Springs this morning (the majority of the road signs around property have already been modified to reflect this change). A new Disney Springs map is now available to Guests visiting the area (which does not appear to include any major updates).

  1. NO! I loved the Downtown Disney name. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now. Good to see the project's making progress, though.

  2. Not too big of a deal but why change the name? Who behind the curtains decided changing the name would be beneficial? Disney Springs? Really? Sorry but the original name made more sense and has been that name for many years. You can't just change the name and expect everyone to call it that, obviously the people that work for Disney will but us fans of this place will always call it Downtown Disney.

  3. By your logic, we should have never called it Downtown Disney. It was several names before the 90's and DD name. I like the back story, the new name for quite obviously a huge expansion and that leaves Downtown Disney name for California only. Never liked that there was two DD's even though WDW DD came first.

  4. The majority of visitors to WDW are on their first trip. Many are barely acquainted with FP let alone the previous names of shopping centers, attractions, and individual parks. They don't know "used to be" they only know what is now, only concern themselves with Now.

if you happen to be asked by someone for help in planning their first visit and find yourself talking of "used to be," stop talking.

  5. Why is it that so many big Disney World fans wish the place would just stay as it is, or as it was? All changes are viewed as negative. If we put up a poll asking whether they should tear down Mission Space and restore Horizons, it would get 90%+ yes votes. But of course, had things stayed the same, there would be no Epcot at all.

Disney Springs is a much better name than Downtown Disney in my opinion. It will be a much more beautiful place, with more water and trees and shade than ever before. Plus MUCH larger. It will put that other place up I-4 to shame. I for one can't wait to see it completed and am looking forward to dining at Morimotos and the Boathouse next month!
