Walt Disney World Inadvertently Sells Limited Number of MagicBand+ Bands Ahead of Official Release

A few days ago, the Walt Disney World Resort issued a statement regarding some MagicBand+ bands that were mistakenly released to the public too early. According to recent reports, these bands were available for a few hours at World of Disney (located at Disney Springs), and were being sold for less than $30. Here is the full statement that was released internally:

"We learned that a limited number of our upcoming MagicBand+ bands were mistakenly sold at one of our retail locations. We have since removed them from shelves and are offering full refunds for this inconvenience.

All of the features planned to be included in the new MagicBand+, including the interactive in-park experiences, are not yet operational and are planned to launch later this year. We will announce these details, including all of the MagicBand+ capabilities, pricing and availability, at a later date."

According to Disney, these new MagicBands will allow Guests to immerse themselves in Disney stories using exciting new features, including:
  • Customizable color-changing lights
  • Haptic vibrations
  • Gesture recognition
  • And more

Additionally, all types of MagicBand or card will continue to allow Guests to:
  • Enter theme and water parks (with valid admission).
  • Check in at Lightning Lane and virtual queue entrances.
  • Connect Disney PhotoPass images to their account.
  • Unlock the door of their Disney Resort hotel room.
  • Charge food and merchandise purchases to their Disney Resort hotel room
