Site Where Proposed Orlando Thrill Park Was to Be Built Taken Over By New Vacation Home Development

Those who have been following Orlando Theme Park News for many years may remember the ill-fated plan to bring a Six Flags-like amusement park known as "Orlando Thrill Park." If built, this compact park would have featured over 20 attractions and would have been situated just south of the former Festival Bay Mall (later replaced by Dezerland Park).

The Baker Leisure Group was the company behind the park that would have occupied 70 acres of land. Developers of the Orlando Thrill Park wanted to build roller coasters so tall that they would have required approval from the FAA.

After multiple failed attempts to have their plans approved, the company moved on and left that parcel of land vacant for many year. Now, it appears that the site will be taken over by a new vacation home development called Storey Drive.

According to the official website of this new development, Storey Drive will closely mimics it’s Storey Lake community in Kissimmee, with a mix of short-term rental condominiums, single family vacation homes, and townhomes. The community will include 60 detached homes and villas of up to 4,305 square feet, 200 vacation townhomes, and 8 apartment buildings with 256 resort condos.

Storey Drive will also feature multiple lakes and a massive community clubhouse with resort-style pool with lazy river, restaurant, beach volleyball and basketball courts, and a playground. A pedestrian bridge in the northeast corner of the resort will link up to the Shingle Creek Regional Trail.

The projected opening date for this Lennar community is May 2022, but that is subject to change.
