Islands of Adventure Update: Dragon Challenge Track Disappearing

While there are plenty of new attractions on the horizon for Universal Studios Florida (you can learn more about them by checking out our latest photo-report), Islands of Adventure is also quite busy getting ready for multiple new additions coming to the park in the near future. In addition to the new roller coaster that will replace Dragon Challenge, a projection show will debut in Hogsmeade later this year, and a brand-new nighttime spectacular is expected to debut in the not-so-distant future.

Of course, that is only the beginning, as there are multiple rumors regarding possible replacements for Toon Lagoon and the Lost Continent. Let's take a look around this stunning theme park as we wait to learn more about these exciting projects:

As you can see, the line for The Incredible Hulk Coaster was very long:

The park has been quite busy in the past few days:

The Marvel Superhero Island logo was surrounded by barricades:

Toon Lagoon:

As expected:

It appears that the ride was down due to technical difficulties:

Temporary lights could be seen in various areas of Jurassic Park:

Crowds, crowds, and more crowds:

Inclement weather forced multiple attractions to close:

Walls are still up by the entrance arches of Jurassic Park and Hogsmeade:

  1. Hoping between 12/31/17 and when Nintendo Land opens, the Marvel area will HAVE TO GO!, Because not everybody can fly to California to see Marvel characters at a Disney theme park, This isn't 1999 anymore, so please stop covering MSHI until its final day and the walls will say, "COMING SOON, SEE A COMPLETELY NEW LAND with a Splat-ful of Fun, that will SLIME you"(hinting at Nickelodeon), they'll likely hide the area with a cover when they remove all Marvel references and start work on the Nick themed land(the Hulk coaster will be an exception as they'll re-print it Ninja Turtles green for a TMNT coaster), so they can go to DHS and replace the Indy stunt show area with a completely new area based upon the MCU with new attractions contructed by WDI, shops, a S.H.E.I.L.D restaurant, and super hero encounters(including the WDW debuts of Spidey, all of the Avengers(of course the main 6 MCU Avengers with the additions of Falcon, Vision, just a few, etc.). Magic Kingdom would add X-Men and Fantastic 4 in Tomorrowland.

#BoycottUniversalOrlando(until both Disney and Universal can agree that Disney can use all the MARVEL characters in their Orlando(and Tokyo) parks, and a public apology that they had to keep their characters(Spider-Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Scarlett Witch, Quicksilver, Vision, Falcon, Ant Man, Black Panther, Winter Soldier, The Wasp, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Wolverine, Rogue, Storm, Cyclops, Dr. Doom, Mr Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, The Thing, and many others) for that past decade after the Disney/Marvel buyout, and actually regret not using the Avengers(2012) scene in the finale montage in the now closed Great Movie Ride, because it was a landmark in movie history)

    1. Where was Disney when Marvel was handing all this stuff out? Buying rights to such hits as Lone Ranger and John Carter. No, Disney waited until other companies made Marvel famous then decided to get in on it, and now they are having a tantrum over theme park rights and Fantastic Four/X-Men characters. I think it's hilarious. To think Fox still owns the distribution rights to the first Star Wars for the foreseeable future is fantastic.
Maybe is Disney hadn't been so late to the party this wouldn't have happened. and now because of Disney we don't get Wolverine, Dr. Doom or Deadpool in Marvel vs. Capcom. Or a physically collection of all the Star Wars films.

    2. Yes Awesome1997, lets boycott a whole resort because of a deal that was made in the early 1990's. Universal will probably keep a hold of MARVEL until Disney dangles a big enough carrot to get them to relinquish the rights. I'm happy with MSHI. It's a heck of a lot better than Guardians of Galaxy at California Adventure.

CaptJapan, you hit the nail on the head.

  2. Rumors are pointing to Nintendo's franchises being split between both parks as Universal has bigger plans for them than Harry Potter. Only question is which ones and where? I would guess with such a huge market for princesses, Legend of Zelda and Super Mario in separate parks. Pokemon would be huge no matter location. With franchises like Kirby, Donkey Kong, Animal Crossing, and maybe Metroid sprinkled in.

  3. I love Marvel super hero island! It is a masterpiece of a land that Disney wishes they could create but could never capture the same magic that universal created with it! I hope Universal keeps Marvel properties in Marvel superhero island for eternity! The only deal that I as Universal would accept is a tremendous amount of land from around the Universal Orlando Resort or rights to franchises on the level of Marvel such as DC comics of which Disney figures out how to get those rights for universal. Since both of those seem highly unlikely, I expect and hope Universal keeps Marvel island for the next 20-25 years at the very least!

    1. Afterall I wouldn’t consider Marvel to be on the chopping block as it is as relevant as ever. Plus at Island of Adventure for example I could see both Toon Lagoon and the lost continent getting complete overhauls first before Marvel Is even touched!
