Magic Kingdom Hub Update: Third Castle Tower Unveiled

After months of construction, the tarps that formerly surrounded the third castle tower (that has been built in the central hub of the Magic Kingdom Park) have finally been removed. While it is still behind walls, the additional tower will soon serve as tech booth that will be used during certain times of the day.
Today, we will take a look around the entire central plaza of the park, as some new sections have opened since our last update. Join us while we tour the area:

The entire hub feels much more open now, without being a concrete jungle:

The new trees and planters definitely help in keeping the area more appealing to the eyes:

Of course, some areas may appear to be a little bare to some people:

On the east side, a new walkway recently opened:

A lot of trees now fill the area previously occupied by the Rose Garden:

Here is the third castle tower that was mentioned at the beginning of this post:

As you can see, this is larger than the other two towers that were unveiled in the past few weeks:

Nearby, work continues to be done around the two castle ramps:

The east ramp:

The west ramp:

The fourth (and final) tower is still behind tarps:

The very last stretch of the expanded walkway is also still behind walls:

A peek behind the scenes:

Minor landscaping work being done near Cinderella Castle:

A look at one of the two castle ramps from the other side of the moat:

It's time to leave the area. We will be back soon:

  1. Is there an Adventure Land Veranda / Skippers Canteen update anytime soon? Just curious since I'd assume by now the back of the build should be rebuilt by now..... Thanks OTPN team!!!

  2. Do we know yet if the Light trussing is permanent or just there until the Tech Booth and 4th Tower open?

  3. I'm going in 2 weeks. Any reason why no rooms are available? Will it still be slow season?

  4. Columbus Day Weekend always seems to be a busier time, during a usual slower time of year.

  5. Canteen is mostly walled off right now.

No rooms available in 2 weeks? At the entire WDW? That can't be right. Maybe just no rooms where you're looking.

  6. Is there an issue with the RSS feed? My feed hasn't updated since 9/16, and when viewing the feed on the site it says "The blog that used to be here is now at http://www.orlandoparksnews.com/feeds/posts/default." Going to that link though just re-directs right back to the original RSS feed of "http://feeds.feedburner.com/OrlandoThemeParksNews". Is this something that can be fixed? Thank you!

  7. On topic: the permanent towers etc should hold all the lighting for the stage. However, Disney has taken quite a fancy to 'temporary' and 'seasonal' stage events at which they utilize the truss systems. I put those words in quotes because temporary at Disney can easily be years, and at Disney seasons exist continuously - blending into each other with scant non seasonal time in between.

But, I'm confident all will be well because the Castle is the ultimate iconic image of the resort and there are powerful reasons to protect that imagery against too much visual intrusion.

  8. Portrait view on my iPhone seems to cause the aspect ratio of the pics to be off. I've noticed this in the last few weeks. Otherwise love the site and continue posting great updates to the parks.

  10. Anon on top. Only rooms available are the big name hotels. Everything under 330 is full.

  11. We went for the second week of October last year. What you are seeing as far as room availability is correct. The second and third week of October are quite busy due to Fall Break. Have a good plan and you should be fine, but it is by no means a slow season. To be honest what is that anymore?

  13. @OTPN: Any idea for a projected completion time frame on this project?

  14. @Terry: While we do not know if there's a set date for the completion of the project, we are quite sure that work should be completed before the end of October/beginning of November. That's purely based on how the work area looks at the moment.
