Hollywood Studios Update: Soundstage One Facade Work

While the Sorcerer's Hat icon is completely gone (click here to view our last update covering the park's hub), there are still other minor projects taking place around the park. The most important of these project is the Toy Story Mania expansion that is taking place inside Soundstage One, an empty building adjacent to the ride. Work is already being done inside the building itself, while work on theming the exterior of the building has just begun. Let's take a look:

The new photo-op next to the exit of The Great Movie Ride continues to take shape:

As you can see, it will follow the same theme of the Chinese Theater:

Work continues inside the Superstar Theater:

Walls currently surround Soundstage 1:

We expect to see this facade entirely covered in bricks in a few months, as the area should become an extension of the existing Pixar Place (which includes similarly-themed buildings):

We are definitely happy to finally see something being done in this once dormant area:

A Green Army Man relaxing on a bench with a park Guest:

These spontaneous interactions are the best. Sadly, they are also quite rare at Disney Parks these days:

New movie posters behind The Great Movie Ride:

A new seating area for the nearby Starbucks has been set up along Sunset Blvd.:

A part of the sign of the nearby Legends of Hollywood is being refurbished:

Walking toward the Hollywood Tower Hotel:

The new Sunset Ranch Pins and Souvenirs location:

Moving on:

Minor work being done near the entrance of the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater:

We'll conclude with some evening shots of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith:

  5. A great update as always OTPN, please keep doing what you do.

Although it's nice to see an addition come to Hollywood studios of sorts, I can't help but get the feeling that if they actually started adding more to do he studios, there wouldn't be a need for an expansion of TSMM as the wait times wouldn't be as long. The space being used for the expansion could then be used for a brand new experience instead.

  6. Excellent update! I think the expansion to TSMM is necessary no matter what they do with Star Wars Land, etc. It's one of the best attractions at all of Disney World, one that I would describe as a "new classic". So the additional capacity will help as Stars Wars Land (eventually, assuming it's actually true) brings more and more people to DHS in the first place.

I will also say that by expanding TSMM, it all be eliminates the rumor that there would be a separate Pixar Land.

  7. Its a great facade with the right weather, i.e. blue skies. But too much of DHS is beige-y, and just looks very 'down' on a murky day.

  8. I think this addition is the signal of the start of more Poxar to come JB

  9. Gibby: You may be very correct! I just pulled up Google Maps and looked at where the existing Pixar Place is in relation to Backlot Tour and Lights Motor Action. I didn't realize they were back-to-back. Would be interesting if they did more Pixar stuff there, then put the Star Wars Land on either side of Star Tours, which would mean goodbye to Muppets, Pizza Planet, Mama Melrose's, Backlot Express, Indiana Jones Stunt show, etc...

I wonder if New York Street would be absorbed into one or the other. Both would be big pulls for people. Not sure I'd want to see another Cars Land. Would prefer something unique to WDW.

  10. I agree with Paul, I think that this is only the beginning for the Pixar expansion. There's still plenty of room to put more stuff. They can use the land that was once used by the Backlot tour and the Pirates thing.

I read somewhere that Monster Inc and Incredibles will possibly get rides. Hopefully the rumors are totally true. Because Hollywood needs some love.

  11. They would get rid of the muppets as there are plans to make a new 3D movie to replace the old 1. The little Mermaid needs to go

  12. Wonder if that photo op by GMR could possibly be for Oswald? If not, they need to add him to DHS somewhere. TDS and DCA have him already.
