Castle Walls with Changing Lights? Strange Indeed

As we hinted a day ago on our Facebook page, strange things are happening in the mysterious Fantasyland Forest. It looks like there are new disco lights coming out of nowhere in spots where... lights should be either low, or non-existent. An example? The Ursula cut-out located in the final part of the new Journey of the Little Mermaid ride now has very powerful strobe lights behind her, and that looks really like a forced effect. In fact, it looks like there's some kind of party going on behind her, as the color of the light is very unnatural.

Another example? This (NOTE: the music in the video wasn't playing in the park. It was added for emphasis):

One thing we have to state is that only three of the turrets had changing lights, so this might just be a test. That being said, what do you think? Is this a reasonable way to make the turrets visible during the evening/night hours? In our opinion it would be better to go back to having a static blue light. That surely works much better.

Of course, most Theme Park Fans know that Disney loves strobe lights. They seemingly fix anything. ;-)

  1. I think they should change color with Cinderella castle if they are going to change color at all. The abrupt change doesn't fit with the feel of the land to me. It looks more like Tomorrowland invaded. Hopefully it'll become a gradual change rather than this sudden change.

  2. I would be shocked if this wasn't a test. Come the opening in December, I'd expect to see them changing along with Cindy's castle.

  3. Most likely whatever computer controls the color and strength of the lights was having technical issues. I can't see how this would be something that Disney would actively want when the rest of the land is so well themed.

  4. This is definitely a test (a wonky one at that) for future lighting. I suspect they are going to employ the same type of versatile lighting on the castle walls that they already use on Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland. That'll be a plus.

Put neon on the walls itselve and but some slot machines in the princessess meet and greet.

  8. I would say that the lighting was having technical issues. These lights are theatrical LED lights, and I have seen countless times that the light stops responding to commands and just starts going crazy, or strobing as we see here! I am a technical director at a church which means I oversee all lighting, & AV needs at our church, so, I have seen this issues a lot!

Has anybody else seen this since you guys saw it a few days ago? If so, then maybe I am wrong......and I really hope I am not wrong, because that's looks awful!
