Another new resort for WDW?

Screamscape reported just yesterday that a new Disney resort may be in the works.

Here's the news:

New Disney Resort Hotel - Rumor - (8/31/10) Screamscape has been sent an interesting rumor that claims Disney’s Tri Circle D Ranch area, the nearby beach area along the lake and the former River Country property may all be planned to be leveled sometime next summer, to clear the site to make way for a brand new mega Disney resort project. Anyone else know more about this?

Also, there has been a new update today (always from Screamscape) that says that the new resort may be a Disney Vacation Club resort:

2013/2014 - New Disney DVC Resort Hotel - Rumor - (9/1/10) According to our sources, Disney engineers have been spotted going over the site, to determine just what will need to be done to remove the remains of Water Country. Others have been seen near the front of Fort Wilderness talking about plans to build new barn facilities to move the current Tri Circle D Ranch to a new location. As for the resort itself, I’ve been told that this will be a new DVC Resort, with the design being based on the old Buffalo Junction plans from years ago (minus the now defunct Fort Wilderness Railroad and other extra features), filling the gap between the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. You can find a nice article about the once proposed Buffalo Junction (aka: Wilderness Junction) concept at Progress City USA.

What do you think? At the Walt Disney World resort there are already more than 25 resorts, with another one on the works (The Disney's ART of Animation resort. To see the complete press release, click here.), so are they exaggerating with the hotels, or the demand for more rooms is increasing?

  1. Theme-wise this seems similar to the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge.
I am curious about the demand for DVC resorts. It must be great, because they keep building new ones. I have been on the fence about buying in, we even went on a tour last year. I just worry because it seems like the point charts are always higher than the previous year's.

  2. One more thing: All of these new rooms mean more people in the parks! Eventually it's going to be too crowded in the parks.

  3. Disney really needs to spend more time on their parks instead of designs so many different hotels. When they have expanded and fixed up all the current parks and facility's then they should add new facility's. Other wise the resort will just be a bunch of unfinished things.

  4. Good god... Disney complained they put off phase 2 of Pop Century for 9/11 and that they werent filling their rooms, then 2008 or so hits and all these new resorts spring up. Bay Lake, Animation, Treehouse Villas, etc.

Are they just blind towards their parks? You got Tomorrowland which needs two new replacement rides (stitch and monsters inc) Animal Kingdom where you have two plots of expansion area that are unused which could add a few more rides (at least 2 E-tickets), DHS you have a mostly unfinished park. I mean with Star Tours down, Toy Story down and etc there is no line at the park for anything. That is not a good sign at all. Hopefully the coaster is greenlit and it gets added to give capacity but it has to be just the beginning.

Epcot.. So much stuff is wrong there. A. JIYI needs a overhaul B. Universe of Energy needs a update to the film or replacement C. WOL is closed D. Odyssey is closed wasting space E. After EO we need a new show which we wont get probably F. Multiple expansion pads unused as well as show buildings for countries that was to house a ride/attraction are now storage buildings.

Thats just the tip of the iceberg.
The resorts are the least of Disney's worries. Ugh... I wish Walt was still alive.
