Around the World (Showcase): MOROCCO

Welcome to a new series that will appear every two weeks, and will focus on one country of World Showcase, in Epcot. Here you will see pictures from each pavilion.

This weeks' pavilion is: MOROCCO!:

It's one of the nicest pavilion, even though it doesn't have any ride:

There's a very nice museum though:

Look how good is the theming!:

Having been in Morocco myself, I can assure you it's exactly like this (except it far more crowded than this):

The souk is great:

The Marrakesh restaurant.... not so much. It costs a lot and it doesn't offer top-notch food.
I don't recommend it. And I'd like to add that the Kebab is fake. The real one is way different that the one they serve in this restaurant:

What happened here?:

The Tangierine Cafe' on the other hand, is a good quick service location.
The food is somewhat better than the one served in the restaurant, but, do you want a piece of advice?
If you have to choose a pavilion where to eat, skip Morocco:

The Menu of the Tangierine cafe':

Here you are some fun facts about the pavilion, courtesy of Hidden Mickeys:

- When decorating the Morocco Pavilion, Disney designers went to Morocco to seek out craftsmen. They then brought back 19 of them.

- Morrocco is the only country in the World Showcase that the government of the country was involved in. The government helped with some of the artwork.

- In the first building on the left side when you enter the pavilion there is a room that has several carpets. The room faces east and the carpets are there so that Islamic visitors to the park can have a place to pray. Islamic cast members reportedly have a place backstage.

- When walking through Morocco, take a look at all of the mosaic tile artwork on the walls. You will notice that each mosaic has at least one cracked/flawed tile in it. This is because these mosaics were created by Moroccan artisans, and they believe that nothing made by humans can be perfect, so the cracked tiles and "mistakes" were put there on purpose!

- If you look on the Morocco Pavilion walls there are no animated drawings, only squares or other lines, because that is prohibited in Morocco. Islamic style of art prohibits the representation of any living thing, which is why the designs are all geometric.

- Inside Morocco in Fez's house if you look up at the balcony, you can hear voices of people, like somebody was actually living up there.

- If you look at the pavilion from across World Showcase lagoon, you will see that the Hollywood Tower from the near Disney'S Hollywood Studios has a color that fits perfectly with the rest of the pavilion, so that there's no visual intrusion.

Which country would you like to see added next?

  1. Thanks again, Samuele! I love the archetectural details of this pavilion. Not every country needs to have a ride, and I think it would get boring if they all did.

  2. Thanks James! About World Showcase I think that if there was at least one dark ride per country, everyone would be happier 9or at least most of the people), because there are too many empty lots behind each country..
But i respect your opinion. You like a peaceful environment, right? :)

  3. I wouldn't say that... I love rollercoasters, too! I like to have variety.

  4. Awesome photos, Samuele!

Eek! I've never eaten at Restaurant Marrakesh, but we've got reservations there next month. Is it that bad?
Also, we really like the Tangierine Cafe. I am a vegetarian and I love the falafel there. Veggie burgers and salads get old after a few days, so I appreciate a little variety.

My husband likes it, but he's from England, so the bar is set low--food-wise. ;)

  5. oops! Don't worry, if you choose the right things, there won't be any problem! The real problem is... the price! Yes, the price is high, and it increases if you eat dinner!
But, you've to realize that everyone has different tastes (is that the right word?) so you may love what i don't like...
But you'll have a good time, don't worry about that!

  6. I hope I didn't come across as adversarial. :(

If it sucks, it sucks. At the end of the day, I am at Epcot. :)

I love Epcot so much, we are staying at Beach Club Villas, so we can walk there.

I've not stayed on property for 20 yrs, so I am *so* excited. (We usually stay off property) :D

  7. No, don't worry! I appreciated a lot your comment! You are sooo lucky to stay at the Yatch and beach Club!!!! I would love to stay there, but I live here already...
That's the downside of living so near the theme parks ;-)!
Have a great vacation, and don't worry about the restaurant...
Try it by yourself, and then if you want, let me know!
