Downtown Disney Update: "Wall Land" (PART 2)

Welcome to PART 2 of our newest Downtown Disney/Disney Springs photo-update (PART 1 can be found HERE).

In part 1 we took a quick look around the West Side section, Pleasure Island, and the beginning of the Marketplace. We will now check out the rest of this area (including the new parking garage currently being built in front of the AMC Theaters). Please, continue to enjoy this update:

Some more photos of the former Cap'n Jack's restaurant:

The volcano of the Rainforest Cafe was actually shooting fire also during the day. It usually does so at night:

Amazing:

The Marketplace Starbucks is slowly taking shape behind these walls:

Going to the parking lots:

Walls everywhere:

And now, enjoy more than 20 photos of the construction of the new parking garage:

It's really going to be a massive structure:

  1. If only Disney would be as active inside their parks as outside I would find a compelling reason to visit them again, but I guess they know themselves they aren't able to build something as financially successful as Harry Potter at Universal Studios so they decided to build shops, restaurants and timeshares instead.

  2. I guess New Fantasyland ($425M), Next Gen Experience ($1B), and the upcoming Avatar Land ($400M) don't count as active enough?

  3. A billion dollars to remove turnstiles at the park gates does nothing to improve the guest experience despite whatever Disney propaganda Disney would have you believe. And that will be even more apparent in the next fiscal year as Disney is forced to acknowledge as much. Avatar Land is is pretty much stalled at the moment. And New Fantasyland does little for families who do not have girls under 14.

Would love to hear what this is based on.

  6. I know I'm not going to change any Disney purist minds, but as much as I love the experiences that all the parks offer; Disney has not had a new E-ticket attraction since Toy story mania opened in 2008. Universal: The Simpsons, Hollywood RRR,Harry Potter, Despicable me (possibly D-ticket), Transformers, soon to be Gringott's coaster, upgrades to Spiderman & dueling dragons. Ok, so Disney have offered the odd ride upgrade here and there, but they've had no new E-ticket offering for a few years yet until Avatar arrives. That will be nearly 8-9 years without a new e-ticket, although I expect they'll try to pitch the 7 dwarves train as one.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Disney are relying too much on their brand to keep people coming back, which I find frustrating. I really want Disney to hit back with something truly groundbreaking, not a magic band that... well not really interested to be honest.

I used to love Disney above all the other parks. But I'm planning a short break from the UK to Orlando in 2014, and this time will be choosing Universal over Disney!
