LEGOLAND Florida: A Look Back in Time

As you may remember, Central Florida's newest theme park (LEGOLAND Florida) held its Grand Opening  event on October 15, 2011. This means that the park has already be open for two years, and it has grown quite a lot since then. Here is a quick recap of some of the additions, expansions, and new offerings that are now available in the park and that were not available on opening day, from the official LEGOLAND Florida Blog:
  • LEGOLAND® Water Park - Opened just 8 short months after the park opening, this “park within a park” expansion provides gallons of fun for the whole family, from DUPLO® Splash Safari to Splash Out to the Build-a-Raft River!
  • LEGO® Star Wars™ Miniland Model Display – In this expansion of Miniland USA, guests can enjoy seven of the most famous scenes from the six live-action Star Wars movies, as well as a scene from the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars™ all made out of 1.5 million LEGO bricks built in 1:20 scale. Guests will be further immersed into the Star Wars experience as they pose with life-size LEGO models of Darth Maul, R2-D2 and Darth Vader.
  • Fresh from Florida Greenhouse and Learn & Grow Experience – Visitors can explore a Florida farm from seed to harvest through a variety of hands-on and visual displays. They can see a model orange grove, with LEGO oranges and orange pickers; work a solar-powered irrigation system by turning solar power panels toward a LEGO sun; enjoy native plants, flowers and wildlife, including a LEGO bald eagle; and learn about the history of Florida since Ponce de Leon landed in Florida 500 years ago in 1513.
  • Warner Bros. Games ™ Zone – This air-conditioned expansion in the Imagination Zone is every gamer’s dream and a great way to take a break from the Florida heat. This interactive game zone is where kids can test and play the latest LEGO video games and interact with technology on a variety of popular gaming systems!
  • The Fried Chicken Company – Rides aren’t the only new additions to the park, and this new sit-down restaurant features indoor and outdoor dining areas, a delicious menu of fried chicken, chicken sandwiches and wraps, and colorful, retro-inspired LEGO décor!
  • I-Zone Panini – This tasty pressed sandwich shop was added after grand opening. It gives guests in Imagination Zone some delicious lunch options, from roast beef with horseradish to vegetarian panzanella or children’s options of ham & cheese and peanut butter & jelly.
  • The LEGO World of Chima presented by Cartoon Network – This newest expansion is a can’t miss adventure for the entire family, with no minimum height requirement on the signature ride; The Quest for CHI. Families can board their own watercraft and fire water cannons to help protect the precious CHI, splash and play in Cragger’s Swamp or test their Speedorz™ skills in the Speedorz Arena!
Thank you for reading, and stay tuned as more information about the park's newest area (DUPLO Valley, opening spring 2014) should be released soon. Also, you can look forward to a new LEGOLAND update!

  1. LLF's expansions are not huge like Disney's or Unversal's but I'm glad that they aren't standing still and that there's always something to look forward to. Can you say awesome lakefront hotel? :D
