PHOTOS: Exclusive Preview of "Behind The Seeds" Tour Returning to EPCOT on Oct. 2 (PART 1)

As recently announced by the Walt Disney World Resort, select tours from the Enchanting Extras Collection will be returning to EPCOT beginning October 2, 2022. one of these offerings is "Behind the Seeds," a one-hour walking tour giving park Guests an up-close and personal view of the amazing plants, insects, and fish found throughout the four greenhouses at The Land Pavilion.

According to the park's official website, the tour will allow you to:
  • Learn about the hybrid striped bass, tilapia, catfish, and freshwater shrimp in the fish farm;
  • Behold gigantic fruits and vegetables and unusual crops from around the world;
  • Discover the latest plant-growing techniques, including hydroponics.
Today, we will take a close look at some of the locations that Guests will be able to visit as part of the tour (be aware that these photos were taken earlier this summer, so you can expect to visit all of these areas as part of the tour). Enjoy!:

Our first stop was the Integrated Pest Management Lab, located behind the end tunnel of Living with Land. Here, we were able to see how the park utilizes specific insects to control pests in the park's greenhouses:

The next stop was the Biotechnology Lab:

The first greenhouse we visited was the Creative Greenhouse, where many of the plants are grown using a system known as "Aeroponics," in which a fine mist of water and nutrients is sprayed directly onto their roots:

You can see the Aeroponics system in action in the photos below:

The next stop was the String Greenhouse, which focuses on innovative high-density techniques, such as the "Nutrient film" technique. The greenhouse also includes the "vertical growing techniques", in which plants are grown in such a way that they appear to be trees (even though they are not):

Here's the list of ingredients used in the greenhouse:

One of the most unique features of this greenhouse is the "tomato tree", which produced over 32,000 tomatoes in a 16-month period!:

As mentioned on the ride, much of the produce grown in these greenhouses is used in The Garden Grill and Sunshine Seasons restaurants, which are also located in The Land pavilion:

Lettuce is one of the more "demanding" produce, as it requires cooler water to be able to grow; as a result, the park had to install an A/C unit to cool the water so it reaches an acceptable temperature:

Notice the 50th anniversary logo on the opposite side of the flume:
