Disney Wish Maiden Voyage Delayed to July 2022 Due to COVID-Related Impacts

Just a few days ago, The Walt Disney Company officially announced that the maiden voyage of the new Disney Wish cruise ship has been delayed, resulting in the cancellation of 12 sailings.

Here's the official announcement published by Thomas Mazloum, President of Disney Signature Experiences:

It has been nothing short of magical to watch the excitement build among our Guests – and all of you – as each new detail about the Disney Wish is revealed. Our Cast, Crew and Imagineers, as well as those at the Meyer Werft shipyard, are pouring their hearts into bringing this magnificent new ship to life. Their hard work and ingenuity are reflected in every aspect of the project.

While we are all eagerly awaiting the ship’s debut, we must share that our anticipation will unfortunately have to extend a bit longer than initially planned. The shipyard has notified us that despite their very best efforts, they will need more time to finish our ship due in part to the pandemic and particularly the arrival of the Omicron variant in Germany at a critical point in the process.

As a result, we have no other choice than to delay our maiden voyage until July 14, 2022. This will regrettably affect the first 12 sailings of the Disney Wish, including our exclusive cruise for DVC Members, which will now begin on July 19. We know how much our Guests are looking forward to sailing on our beautiful new ship, and we understand the disappointment and inconvenience this will cause. We are quickly reaching out to affected Guests to assure them we will do all we can to help them adjust their vacation plans.

While the delay is disappointing, what remains unchanged is our dedication to creating a fantastic and unparalleled experience aboard the Disney Wish. This ship is going to be everything we envision – a majestic new member of our family, complementing our other ships while bringing to life imaginative new spaces, experiences and entertainment.
