This Week in Disney History: November 5-11

This week we celebrate the 45th anniversary of Robin Hood. On Nov. 8, 1973, Robin Hood, the animated film was released by Walt Disney Productions. The story follows the adventure of Robin Hood as he rebels against the villainy of Prince John, and his accomplices, Sir Hiss and the Sheriff of Nottingham. Prince John has usurped the throne of King Richard, his brother, who was captured on the Crusades. With Little John, Friar Tuck, and the townspeople of Nottingham, Robin defeats the runty prince and his minions and Richard is free to return and reclaim his kingdom.

Nov. 5

1937 – “The Old Mill” (Silly Symphony) is released
1990 – Disney’s Yacht Club Resort opens
1997 – Les Chefs de France reopens at Epcot, taking over the space of Bistro de Paris and Au Petit Cafe
1999 – Touchstone Pictures releases “The Insider”
2004 – Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios release “The Incredibles”

1942 – “Sky Trooper” (Donald Duck cartoon short) debuts
1956 – “A Cowboy Needs a Horse” special cartoon was released
1957 – “Adventures in Fantasy” television show aired
1998 – Touchstone Pictures releases “The Waterboy”
2007 – “Pixar Short Films Collection” video was released
2009 – Walt Disney Pictures releases “Disney’s A Christmas Carol”

Nov. 7
1962 – Walt Disney Productions releases “The Legend of Lobo”
1999 – “Annie” (television musical) debuts on the Wonderful World of Disney on ABC
2010 – “Shake It Up” premieres on Disney Channel
2014 – Walt Disney Animation Studios releases “Big Hero 6”

Nov. 8
1964 – “One Day at Teton Marsh” television show aired
1973 – Walt Disney Productions releases the animated film “Robin Hood”
1997 – Cítricos opens at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
1998 – “A Knight in Camelot” aired on The Wonderful World of Disney
2002 – Tokyo Disney Resort welcomes its 300 millionth Guest
2013 – Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and Marvel Studios release “Thor: The Dark World”

Nov. 9
1999 – “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas” film was released on videocassette
2001 – “LuminAria,” a holiday light and music show, debuts at Disney California Adventure Park
2004 – Disney Theatrical Productions “On the Record” premieres in Cleveland, Ohio
2004 – “Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas” direct-to-video was released
2010 – The flagship Disney Store is reopened in New York City’s Times Square

1953 – “The Living Desert” (True-Life Adventure) debuts
1953 – “Ben and Me” (special cartoon featurette) debuts
1959 – Walt Disney Pictures Productions “Third Man on the Mountain”
2000 – “Phantom of the Megaplex” (Disney Channel Original Film) airs on Disney Channel

Nov. 11
1953 – “Working for Peanuts” (Donald Duck cartoon short)debuts
1994 – Walt Disney Pictures releases “The Santa Clause”
1997 – Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment releases “Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas”
2011 – “Geek Charming” (Disney Channel Original Film) airs on Disney Channel
