This Week in Disney History: September 24-30

This week:
On Sept. 24, 1993 the television series “Boy Meets World” aired on ABC. The series follows a young junior high school student, Cory Matthews, as he struggles with the complications of growing up and the mysteries of life. Cory is your average guy. He has a best friend from the other side of the tracks, a teacher that constantly keeps him on his toes, and a friend named Topanga whom he has trouble understanding. With the support of his parents and his brother Eric, Cory learns to cope with the roller coaster called growing up.

Sept. 24
1937 – Mickey Mouse cartoon short “Hawaiian Holiday” debuts
1961 – “Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color” debuts on NBC
1985 – The Lotus Blossom Cafe opens in the China pavilion at Epcot
1993 – The television series “Boy Meets World” aired on ABC
2010 – The animated series “Fish Hooks” premieres on Disney Channel

Sept. 25
1942 – Donald Duck cartoon short “The Vanishing Private” debuts
1957 – The television series “Adventure in Wildwood Heart” aired
1959 – “Mickey Mouse Club” concludes its regular run on ABC
2014 – “How to Get Away with Murder” one-hour drama series premieres on ABC

Sept. 26
1936 – The Silly Symphony short “Three Blind Mouseketeers” debuts
1986 – The television series “Sidekicks” aired on ABC
1991 – Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano restaurant opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
2001 – The contemporary comedy half-hour television series “According to Jim” premeired on ABC

Sept. 27
1947 – Walt Disney Productions releases “Fun and Fancy Free”
2008 – The first Expedition Everest Challenge is held at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park
2010 – Karamell-Küche shop in the Germany pavilion at Epcot opened
2015 – Hour-long drama series “Blood & Oil” premeired on ABC

Sept. 28
1997 – “The Wonderful World of Disney” premieres on ABC airing the television debut of “Toy Story”
2001 – The expanded Emporium opens at the Magic Kingdom Park, putting the entire west side of Main Street, U.S.A. under one roof
2006 – “Ugly Betty” debuts on ABC
2009 – The Disney Parks Blog debuts

Sept. 29
2000 – Walt Disney Pictures releases “Remember the Titans”
2009 – Disney announces the “Give a Day, Get A Disney Day” volunteer program
2012 – The inaugural Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler race takes place at the Walt Disney World Resort
2017 – BaseLine Tap House at Disney’s Hollywood Studios celebrates its grand opening.

Sept. 30
1933 – The Mickey Mouse Cartoon “The Steeplechase” debuts
1989 – “Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers to the Rescue” special aired
2003 – The computer-animated 3-D film attraction Mickey’s PhilharMagic opened in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort
2012 – Big Top Souvenirs store in Storybook Circus at Magic Kingdom Park opened
