Universal Purchases Even More Land for Rumored New Theme Park

Earlier today, the Orlando Sentinel (please, note that the article is available only to subscribers) reported that Universal recently purchased an additional 101.41 acres of land near Sand Lake Road. This large area is attached to the even larger 475-acre area that the company bought more than a year ago. According to rumors, Universal plans to use this land to build one (or even two!) new theme parks, a second entertainment district, a transportation hub, and - of course - more hotels.

While the company has not officially announced anything about this massive expansion project at this time, it is clear that the theme park battle is heating up... We can only imagine what Guests wil be able toe experience in the next few years.

The following maps include the land that Universal currently owns (under different names) in that particular area:

The dark-green area with the blue square (located near the top of the image) is the land that was purchased earlier this week:

  1. Nintendo would be the big guess. Nintendo has been ingrained in pop culture for years and franchises like Super Mario, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, Kirby, etc. Could easily translate into a fully realized theme park. The fact that Mario is more recognized then Mickey could be quite the punch. Or Universal could use their newly bought Dreamworks franchises, maybe not as global popular, but it is full of IPs Universal directly owns now. We'll just have to wait and see.

  2. That is quite a lot of land. Almost doubling the amount they have now, but all those other sections of land they don't own could make building tricky. Still that's exciting!
