Walt Disney World Resort Uses Food Waste to Create Electricity

Did you know that food waste is creating electricity for Walt Disney World's theme parks and resorts? Located on Walt Disney World property near Disney's Animal Kingdom, "Harvest Power" uses award-winning Waste Recycling Technology to turn organic waste from the 50 million visitors that come to Central Florida each year into clean, renewable energy! From soup to coffee grounds, Harvest Power uses anaerobic digesters to power lights found on property and create natural bulk fertilizers.

Food waste recycling is characterized as organic waste, such as foods and biosolids, turning them into renewable energy and fertilizer. This is an important focus to reach Disney's 2020 goal of 60% waste diversion, which will help to reduce Walt Disney World's impact on the environment by diverting thousands of tons of food waste from landfills.
