Animal Kingdom Update: Rivers of Light & More (PART 2)

Welcome to the second part of this new Disney's Animal Kingdom photo-report, Orlando Theme Park News Readers. PART 1 can be found by clicking here.
As you have seen in the previous pictures, a lot of work is taking place around Discovery Island, as most of the area's kiosks, restaurants, shops, and exhibits continue to be refreshed. In addition to that, work continues to be done in Africa, specifically in the Savanna (at Kilimanjaro Safaris). Let's continue our tour.

Welcome to Harambe:

It appears that the speakers next to the stage received new, themed covers:

Let's ride the Kilimanjaro Safaris together, shall we?:

The Savanna:

The new area reserved for the hyenas:

Temporary walls have been installed around the elephant exhibit:

It really feels like being in Africa:

We were able to spot not one, not two, but three lions this time around:

Entering the Harambe Market:

Moving on:

Work continues behind the Tree of Life:

Flights of Wonders will close soon to allow the replacement of the theater's roof:

Asia:

Kali River Rapids and the nearby Maharajah Jungle Trek are both currently closed for refurbishment:

The new Thirsty River Bar:

Everest:

The pathway to bypass DinoLand U.S.A. has reopened:

Just in case:

Dino-Rama:

The animated dinosaurs are not working again. The ride just received a quite long refurbishment...

On the other hand, DINOSAUR still looks great:

New lights have been installed below the DinoLand/Discovery Island entrance arch:

  1. Those lights are awful! I was really hoping they would take the "less is more" approach with the design of the theater. Animal Kingdom during the few evening hours was always about how dark and mysterious the park seemed without daylight. I wanted the theater to reflect that with simple lighting built into the seats that light up the pathways. Now that whole section is just going to be like Fantasmic during showtimes except with a major outdoor ride right behind it and views of the theater all around.

Those current lights make it look like they blew their whole budget on creating the stone (fake cement?) seats and building down towards the water rather than up and just took some left over lights from the disaster that is the Dino-rama area. Hope they do something better.

  2. I agree about the lights - just plain bad and cheap. Maybe they will paint them a nice earthy tone? I hope DINO LAND USA is going to be a distant memory someday soon. Feels soooo cheap and out of place.

  3. While I am sure the show will be worth it, the scale of Expedition Everest from across the water has been diminished.

  4. gotta give them props for taking the unused fastpass space near everest and giving it a purpose again, they could have just placed some of those carts from the parades there, but they built something nice.
