New Toy Story Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

The reimagining of Disney’s Hollywood Studios will take guests to infinity and beyond, allowing them to step into the worlds of their favorite films, starting with Toy Story Land. This completely new 11-acre land will transport guests into the adventurous outdoors of Andy’s backyard. Guests will think they’ve been shrunk to the size of Woody and Buzz as they are surrounded by oversized toys (and multiple new offerings) that Andy has assembled using his vivid imagination.

Using toys like building blocks, plastic buckets, and game board pieces, Andy has designed the perfect setting for this land, which will include two new attractions for any Disney park and an expanded favorite.

Family-friendly roller coaster – All on the back of Slinky Dog, this coaster will zip and zoom, plunge and coast as it takes guests on a fun, toy-filled adventure throughout the new land:

Alien saucers attraction – The famous little green aliens from the movie will take guests around for a spin in their very own flying saucers. The music, lighting and sound effects add to the flurry of action, while “The Claw” looms over.

Toy Story Mania! – Guests glide into the Toy Story Midway Games Play Set and take aim at 3D objects in a variety of fast-paced games, with an expansion that adds a third track to this popular attraction.

And this is just the beginning, as the land will also feature many new meet-and-greet locations, a themed restaurant (probably a new version of Pizza Planet), themed stores, and much more.

  1. If that's Midway Mania in the bottom right...
Then where the heck did the Great Movie Ride go?!
This whole land looks like it's taking the place of the commissary, the sci fi dine in theatre and great movie ride.

  2. Looks like it's from the Little Mermaid, to the right, where all the animation studios once were.?

  3. I think the bottom left is the existing Midway Mania. If you look at a satellite photo the bridge between Midway Mania and the Great Movie Ride line up pretty well to the bridge between buildings we can see in the bottom left of the rendering.

  4. I feel like this whole land is a waste of space. Once again Disney made a stupid decision and put all of their eggs in one basket. A mix of a general Pixar Land with attractions like, Crushes' Coaster, a Ratatouille Ride, Monster Inc door coaster and an Incredible's ride would be awesome. Toy Story is already over used at the parks.
    ... BAD MOVE!

  5. I guess that confirms Lights Motor Action is leaving too. I do like the family style launch coaster and the mater's junkyard jamboree rethemed clone. Does this mean the end of Pixar Place?

  6. I would imagine that Pixar place would be folded into it.

I am not a hater... I will likely love whatever they build. (fine, I'm a I'm a fan boy... I am what I am...)

... however, Won't the front of the park seem really out of place. Imagine, that DHS is going to become more of a traditional theme park. This section is blankland, and this other section is blankland, then what do they do at DHS?

You have 2 very specific lands, Star wars on one side in back, and Toy story on the other side in the back, and then there is a jumble of "old hollywood" around front. Seems patch worked to me, wonder what they will do?

  7. I agree with you Kevin. I suspect they will have to re-furb/re-theme parts of the current park, or at least build transition zones between the areas to make it flow better.

  8. I feel like they around going to "flip" the entrance to Toy Story Mania to the back side of the building and all of Toy Story Land will take place behind the current building as well. They need a way to break guests off going left or right now with the third track being in a totally opposite side of the building. They will either put the line above the current track or create a hallway between the new track and old track that will take you to the current queue with Mr. Potato Head. Where main section of queue starts now, they will break it off to two different sides.

You can see this in the concept art as well. The entrance is the facade north of the red barn. The queue will take place in that new section and then the small hallway takes you into the main ride building. The "Toy Story Land" logo is covering the current show building and the area past that hallway is where the new track will be.

This land doesn't seem like it will require a TON of work. Hopefully Disney will be able to speed themselves up and get this built in a couple of years. The park needs something to keep guests fast!

Great Movie Ride is not going anywhere. They just got a new partner ship and updated parts of the ride.

  9. I don't think it's going to encompass LMA. I just did an area calculation for 11 acres using Google maps, and assuming it takes over the animation building and goes back toward world drive, it doesn't even get close to LMA.

  10. Wish that RC Racer was coming too!

  11. I think the brick looking entrance to midway mania is near the old entrance to the back lot tour, it is almost the exact same shape as the building behind the watertank. so this would put the new land where the honey i shrunk the kids play land, the studio catering company and the backlot tour. pixar place would be come closed off is my guess.

  12. Kevin,

I think its been announced that they are trying to push Hollywood "Studios" to become a park with several immersive lands rather than the current studios theme. It will therefore be more like Magic Kingdom or Islands of Adventure with the different lands & Islands. Given that it is no longer a working studio with a tram tour it doesn't seem worthwhile to keep going with the studio theme.

So far we know there will be Hollywood (park entrance, Great Movie Ride Tower of Terror, Rock'n'Rollercoaster and whatever replaces Beauty & Beast. Then there will be Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land. I assume there will be some Disney Junior and a meet & greet area still. I assume there is still one more big thing to be announced for this park!

I don't think there will be transitions particulaly, Toy Story Land will be seperated off using the Mania show building so it can have an entrance arch, similar to going into Harry Potter Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure.

  13. Based on the concept art it appears this is going behind the existing TSMM as one of the other commenters said. The main entrance looks like it will be around where the Jack Sparrow attraction used to, along with another path leading to the area where the Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area is. I am thinking that the existing Pixar Place will no longer exist once this is complete.

As for LMA, this won't necessarily go into that space, but it will take the space where the LMA practice area is. Operationally I am not sure what that means, don't know if they can operate without the practice space or not. Looking at satellite images you will sometimes see lots of cars parked there so it's clearly not used every day.

  14. Is it me or does this look like a cheap version of the old California Adventure before the re-working?
