Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Updates (Aug. 2014)

Just a few news coming from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex:
The Kennedy Space Center is asking all its Facebook fans to get creative and suggest a name and caption for a photo of the Visitor Complex’s resident squirrel and candy bar thief. The “Squirrely Space Caper” contest will accept submissions until August 18, when the top 10 entries will be selected. Voting begins August 21 and ends August 31. Winners will be announced September 5, 2014.

The winner of the Facebook contest will receive a NASA five patch bomber-style jacket signed by 30 veteran NASA astronauts. Second and third place winners will each receive a 5”x7” photograph of space shuttle Atlantis, also signed by 30 astronauts.

In addition to that, every Friday until the Exploration Fight Test 1 (EFT-1) in December, Lockheed Martin employees will take a break from working on the Orion capsule and bring first hand updates on Orion and the test launch to Exploration Space®: Explorers Wanted. Guests can get the inside scoop on NASA’s plans for a human presence on Mars and the spacecraft that can take us there: Orion and the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket. The Friday updates are included in daily admission.

Lastly, Veteran NASA astronauts will meet with visitors at Astronaut Encounter:
  • Space Shuttle Astronaut Jerry Ross, Aug. 16-20
  • Space Shuttle Astronaut Bruce Melnick, Aug. 21-23
  • Space Shuttle Astronaut Jon McBride, Aug. 24-25
  • Space Shuttle Astronaut Bob Springer, Aug. 26-28
  • Space Shuttle Astronaut Ken Cameron, Aug. 29-31
