Universal Orlando: Simpsons Expansion Announced

It has been a rumor for months and months, but finally Universal Orlando decided to officially announce that they have been "secretly" working on an expansion of the Simpsons themed area. Here you are the details:

Enter the World of Springfield Like Never Before - Only at Universal Orlando Resort!

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 23, 2013) - Woo Hoo! Springfield, hometown to America’s favorite animated family, The Simpsons, comes to life at Universal Orlando Resort this summer.

The expansive, new area within Universal Studios will be anchored by the mega-attraction, The Simpsons Ride, and will allow guests to enter the world of The Simpsons like never before. It will be the only place in the world where guests can walk the streets of Springfield. It will include a brand-new outdoor attraction, places and foods pulled right from the show and two new Simpsons characters who will make their debut with the new area – Krusty the Clown and Sideshow Bob.

And yes – there will be Duff Beer, brewed exclusively for Universal Orlando.

For the first time ever – anywhere – fans will be able to walk down Fast Food Boulevard and visit the places that helped Springfield stake its claim as “Shelbyville by the Sea.” They will be able to grab a Krusty-certified meat sandwich at Krusty Burger, snatch the catch of the day at the Frying Dutchman, get a slice at Luigi’s Pizza, go nuts for donuts at Lard Lad, enjoy a “Taco Fresho” with Bumblebee Man and imbibe at Moe’s Tavern.

The new attraction – called Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl – will take “foolish humans” on an intergalactic spin designed to send them into orbit. (CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL-SIZE ARTWORK)

“This will be a must-see experience for Simpsons fans all over the world,” said Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative. “For the first time ever, they’re going to be able to enter a world that they’ve only seen on television – and we’re really excited to bring that world to life.”

“This new expansion will broaden and deepen the already incredible experience at Universal, by bringing to life the iconic landmarks of Springfield that fans have grown to love,” said Jeffrey Godsick, President, Fox Consumer Products. “Fans will literally be able to live and breathe Springfield as they visit the statue of Jebediah, enjoy a Krusty Burger, and have a seat at Moe’s Tavern, which are just a few of the great experiences awaiting at Universal.”

"It has been an honor to bring the world of the Simpsons to life in such a letter-perfect way,” said Denise Sirkot, President, Worldwide Brand, Gracie Films. “Truly this is the Krustyest place on earth."

We have been following the construction taking place in this area since the closure of the International Film & Food Festival Restaurant, and we have to say that we are very impressed with the awesome job they have done in completely transforming the look and feel of this area. What was once an empty an uninspiring area will soon become a colorful, lively, and expertly-themed waterfront with restaurants, shops, and a new flat ride.

What do you think? Do you personally like this new Simpsons themed land? Share your comments with us!

  1. Cool, but it's really just a bunch of refurbed shops / restaurants. One huge thing that's missing: A tour of the Simpson's house / neighborhood.

  2. Even though the attraction that the Simpsons replaced was my favorite ride ever, I do say, GO UNIVERSAL! This looks great! They have truly learned the valuable lesson of immersive themeing from WWOHP. Kudos.

  3. Simpsons has been a show so too long needing cancelation. What waso nce the best show on TV, has just been kept on too long.

But damn it if I'm not impressed with this theming and all the work Universal is doing.

  4. Any other expansions for Universal Studios we should know about? I assume a blog called Orlando Theme Park News would cover all expansions to theme parks, yes?

  5. Damn, Universal Studios is really going to be an all day park. They have a parade and a nighttime show too! This park is going to look totally different in 2014 compared to 2004

  6. I once met a colleague at work who mentioned that he has religious issues with anything related to sorcery and wizardry. He said it had something to do with "devilry". As am American, I completely comfortable with OTPN choosing to include or exclude anything they want. This blog is the best around regardless. The part that I'm not sure I understand is much is why they don't discuss or even acknowledge holidays. Christmas, even if you don't celebrate it, is one of the most spectacular times to visit Disney. Anyway, I continue to support OTPN fully, no matter what they choose to include. There are plenty of other sites you can get that content from. I think the frustration we're reading here is that this site does it the best, and they just wish it was more complete.

  8. I'll miss the fact that the majority of World Expo used to be there, but the newly refurbished brick waterfront is going to look real nice.

  9. I'll continue to support OTPN. If they will change their name to OTP(except Harry Potter)N.

  11. @Nike: We actually don't cover any of the holidays, but we do continue to visit the parks during those times. Be assured that we will continue to post updates no matter the time of the year!

Also, please, no more Potter-related discussions. We have been discussing that for over an year.
