Rumor: Universal Orlando Planning Third Theme Park?

New theme park rumors pop up every now and then. Some of them are not very exciting, while others would please many theme park fans - if they were indeed true, that is. Well, we now want to share with you what we consider to be an incredibly exciting rumor, which originated on the forum board of WDWMagic. One of the most reliable forum members (his nickname is WDW1974. I'm sure many of our Readers may have read some of his posts on WDWMagic before) has shared the following information regarding Universal Orlando's future:
_________________________________________________________________________

As for the UNI[VERSAL ORLANDO] information, I have been asked by my source to not place all that I know out just yet and I respect that. What I can tell you is more general, but still incredibly impressive. UNI[VERSAL] has BIG ... no, HUGE ... plans for Central Florida that include major new attractions, the real E-tickets, in the next 5-6 years (they will just keep coming with no gaps) for both parks, the addition of more hotels (beyond the three existing and the one being built -- two with VERY kewl themes), a new water park and ... while y'all debate mythical fifth gates at WDW, UNI [VERSAL]will be/is building a third. I guess that's big enough news right there. That's not rumour either. That is the plan right now.

I can tell you that by 2018, EVERY existing expansion pad/locale at UNI[VERSAL STUDIOS FLORIDA] and IOA will either have something new on it or something under construction. And Disney fanbois will still be looking at the half dozen or so pads at EPCOT where there is room for complete pavilions or empty locations...

Now, a big question comes to mind: "Where would Universal be able to find the land it needs to build all these great additions?" Some fans say that they could consider buying some of the land located right across Kirkman Road, but that could be very expansive. There is also a lot of vacant land behind one of the Orange County Convention Center's building, but Universal will have to come up with a reliable (and possibly expensive) way of transportation to link the two existing parks with the newest theme park. What do you think?

  1. I'm very excited too hear this and i'm not a big Universal fan. But this is good for all businesses in Orlando. But i'm excited, because hopefully Disney smartens up and add their own HUGE expansion and start the THEME PARK WARS!

  3. I don't put a lot of stock into what WDW1974 says. He's a know it all And I think that you will find a lot of folks on that forum agree with me. He likes to talk a big game And always says can't reveal his "sources." That's because sources are BS!!! He's a noisemaker. A troublemaker.

  4. Please no more parks.
Look what happened to WDW. Four park that hardly get any attention and lots of rides, pavilouns, shows, movies, etc that need updates.
I'm not saying Universal's parks need that much update because they are already on it but there is still enough place for mayor improvement/expansion.
Take the horrible Twister and Fear Factor Live. They should be replaced asap. Also the animal show and the Terminator are good for something new. And then we have a nice plot of land between MIB and Simpsons. So enough room for improvement there.
Looking at Islands I'm always wondering why they have a huge stadium between Marvel and Toon Lagoon that offers almost never a thing. Talking about Toon Lagoon, I wouldn't mind to see Rip Saw closed. That ride is impossible to get in and out of. Also the whole newspaper comic theme isn't up to the high standards of the rest of the park.
The Eight Voyage of Sindbad is my favorite stunt/comedy show but it's old (like Indiana Jones at Disney Studios old), replace/update it.
Jurassic park has no more Triceratops Encounter, they could use the land for some new rides. Also the lower part of the JP discovery center needs something new.
There is room for another ride for the lovely Zeuss Landing and please could we have the Grinch show perminent in the park, it's awesome!
To top it off the huge lake could use a nice evening show/parade OR a new Island called Lord of the Rings/the Hobbit (I can dream).
Enough money to spent for Universal to stay on top of the competition.

  5. I'm going to agree with Don, we don't need more parks, we need new attractions in the parks we already have, and this includes Disney as well. Next week Disney will kick off a massive media event that should have everyone talking and making Potter Swatter comments. Competition is great, but let's try keeping it contained within the gates. You've reached the point where adding additional gates will not lengthen a stay, or drive additional incremental revenue. You will simply displace and/or cannibalize your existing market.

  6. True or not this is incredibly exciting. This blog/site ets better by the day! I live in Miami, Fl and i wanted to give everyone on this site a heads up. A couple of months ago there was a news article in the Miami Herald and all TV news outlets about our local Miami Zoo who is planning a theme park in the extra land the zoo has available. If im not mistaken what is being offered is 200 acres in land and huge tax breaks as well as full compliance from the local government for the project. Even more land may be avialable from private owners if the developer who "wins" the proposal war were to need so. I heard rumors that they would give big companies such as Disney, universal,Busch Gardens or Six Flags a priority as that is what they are aiming to build here something proven. Also they want to make the adjacent area/street with a I-Drive look and feel. Look into it im sure you guys are much better at digging up informaiton yourselves. The end date for interested companies/developers is April 30th.. right around the corner.

  7. Im glad that universal is adding anew theme park in orlando hope they make extreme rollercoasters with less dark ride because the thing is that almost the parks has dark rides except bush gardens but the new universal in central Florida need to have lots of extreme rollercoasters and some thrill rides like record breaking roller coasters since florida is the theme park capital of the world but im excited.

  8. While this person has been on the mark before in the past, there is one small problem with this suggested rumor. Universal Orlando Resort is (get this) OUT OF SPACE. With the addition of Cabana Bay Beach Resort at the south end of the property (the rumored spot for the mystery waterpark) they are really and truly hemmed in.
Unless they own/buy up homes someplace along Vineland or Turkley Lake roads (read: PR Nightmare) they really can't expand much further without having to cross I-4. That brings up issues with containment and their like of keeping their gates close together.

The best I can guess through some intense studying of google maps, they could move employee parking into the garages (or build another lot). Also moving props, HR and wardrobe as well as two addition back buildings you'd have enough space for the water park. However no matter how much I look and keep looking I can't figure out how they can shoe-horn in a 3rd gate.
