New Fantasyland Grand Opening Set For December 6 at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort

For more than a year now, we’ve shared updates on the New Fantasyland expansion at Magic Kingdom Park and we’re just as excited as you are to experience these magical new attractions for ourselves.

Today we’re thrilled to announce that the grand opening of New Fantasyland will take place on December 6, 2012. Attractions included in this opening are Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid, Be Our Guest Restaurant, Enchanted Tales with Belle, Ariel’s Grotto, Gaston’s Tavern and Bonjour! Village Gifts. Previews of these attractions will begin November 19. As previously planned, the New Fantasyland expansion will continue with the opening of Princess Fairytale Hall in 2013 and the debut of a new Disney “mountain” in the form of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in 2014. The Storybook Circus section of the New Fantasyland expansion, which includes Barnstormer – Starring the Great Goofini, the Casey Jr. Splash & Soak Station, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant, opened to guests in July.

  2. Do you have any idea if the previews will be open for everyone in the parks or just certain people. I am going the last week of November and really hope that it will be open for everyone to experience!

  4. Really Bummed The Coaster Ins't Coming Till 2014. The Way Its Coming Along Now I See It Coming mid to late 2013

  5. the exterior building structure of the coaster is coming along nicely but the actual coaster has been barely started. its a long way from completion.

i still feel it will debut before the end of 2013 but with the rumours of a "first of its kind" tilting mechanism its possible teething problems could delay the project. Disney won't open the attraction until they are fully happy with it.

anyone who has followed the regular brilliant updates here must've been aware that new fantasyland was well ahead of schedule and its not really a surprise to see it open this year

Disney needed a big announcement to deflect the interest Potterworld 2 and Transformers are getting over at Universal

  6. Fear not early arrivers. The previews ARE NOT just for passholders. There are a few different set of previews lined up for all. First in will be Cast Members of MK, followed by the rest of WDW done in waves. The next group of previews will begin11/19 for DVC and annual passholders. Annual Passholders MAY NOT bring a guest, but DVC members may bring up to 4 guests (admission not included, but required). After these previews are done, the previews begin for resort guests who may enter the new area on selected days begining at 8, somewhere around mid morning, the rest of the guests in the park will be invited in.

As far as the Mine Train Coaster, Disney has not changed the date, they have always said it would open in 2014. The actual Grand Opening is likely to happen then, but soft openings should still happen around the holidays of 2013, much like this upcoming opening.

  7. fatdonut, you are sadly misinformed. This project is well behind schedule due to changes in what is contained in the expansion. Little Mermaid has been done for months with the exception of a few pieces that were traded to DCA for their ride. The area is not accessible because of mine train construction so everyone has been taking their time. Even Disney announced a 2011 opening originally, so this would be..... behind schedule.

  8. Fingers Crossed for early November soft openings.

  9. Woo hoo! I wonder if they are going to update the 2013 Princess Half Marathon by including this new land within the running course

  10. yes anonymous 3 (please, leave a name when you post, its so much more polite to be able to refer to a specific person by name!) Disney did originally schedule a 2011 opening and therefore technically are behind schedule.
However i'm sure you're aware that Disney decided to reimagine this project to make it less princess based - and at this point they then started quoting a 2013 opening date so its equally true to claim they are ahead of their revised schedule

i guess on this occasion we are both right - to a point!

at the end of the day it doesn't really matter if Disney are ahead, behind, or precisely on schedule - all that really matters is that new fantasyland will be ready (if not entirely completed) for opening on December 6th and we can finally see that the horrible tarpaulinandwallland we've had to tolerate for so long was worth it in the end

  11. I originally was thinking the opening date would be around October, but the preview date starts in November, so I think the original time frame was pretty close to what was originally planned. I am just excited to finally see it completed!

  12. I am definitely excited that the date has finally been announced... just very sad that I will not be able to see it in person for another few years!
