Disney Movie Summer Games: Daily Update (Aug. 9)

Here you are today's update on the Olympic Summer Games, brought to you by Disney Family Movies:

Wednesday, August 8th Disney Family Movies "Play At The Next Level" Sweepstakes Summer Games Update: Sometimes, if at first you don't succeed, you try, try again! So says my mother, and so says these London 2012 Summer Games:  Team USA runner Allyson Felix (on Twitter: @allysonfelix), who missed out on gold in Beijing '08 and Athens '04, went gold in the 200 meters.  (She crossed  the line in 21.88 seconds, way faster than it took me to type this!) She's the pride -- the fast pride -- of Southern California. Also, Brittany Reese, from the mighty Mississippi town of Gulfport, who failed to podium in Beijing '08, took home the gold for Team USA in the long jump.  All told, Team USA won seven medals in track and field -- excuse us, our British friends, 'athletics' -- Wednesday at Olympic Stadium.

Sometimes, of course, you've succeeded before: Team USA beach volleyball power duo Misty May-Treanor (on Twitter: @MistyMayTreanor) and Kerri Walsh-Jennings (on Twitter: @kerrileewalsh) three-peated, with gold! They even did it by beating Team USA. (Yup, you read that right: Team USA duo April Ross and Jennifer Kessy had to settle for silver.)

But sometimes, it's not about the sport: Team Saudi Arabia runner Sarah Attar, 19 and wearing a head scarf,
finished last in her 800 meter heat -- but happily represented Saudi Arabia, sending women to the Games for the very first time. Attar's mother is American and her father is Saudi. She was born in California, and runs track at Pepperdine University near Los Angeles. So as we head into these London 2012 Summer Games, let's say it together: Go Team World!

Thursday, August 9th: Will Jamaican Usain Bolt (on Twitter: @usainbolt) live up to his billing as the world's fastest man in the 200 meter final? And will Team USA women's soccer (on Twitter: @ussoccer_wnt) avenge their 2011 World Cup loss to Team Japan? All eyes will be on Hope Solo, Abby Wambauch, Alex Morgan & Team USA at Wembley Stadium in London 2012! Go Team USA Women's Soccer!
