International Drive Continues to Expand in 2012/2013

Expansions, expansions, and more expansions. Central Florida's attractions will all be bigger in just a few more years. The new Fantasyland, Avatar Land, Antarctica - Empire of the Penguin, LEGOLAND's Waterpark, Despicable Me, TurtleTrek, Freshwater Oasis... All these new addition will come to Orlando by the end of 2013 (with the exception of Avatar Land).

This does not mean, though, that the only attractions to expand will be only major theme parks. Indeed, some attractions found along International Drive, one of the best tourist corridors in Central Florida, will soon undergo some major changes in the next two years. Here are some of the future projects, as well as some of the new restaurants and hotels that were recently opened:

It sure looks like International Drive will have a quite interesting future. Stay tuned for more information regarding the projects that were mentioned before. We will post some interesting artworks about I-Drive Live and the infamous Orlando Thrill Park very soon.

  1. some of the attractions listed for fun spot seem completely different to those previously detailed. It seems much is still rumour. Apart from the water park,(which despite the claims, doesn't really seem to be offering anything groundbreakingly new) has anything been officially announced?
btw the roller coaster data base (rcdb.com) is now listing a wooden roller coaster to be built by great coasters international (builders of Gwazi @ Busch Gardens among others) scheduled to open March 2013. rcdb rarely put ANYTHING on their website until it has been officially confirmed - has anyone heard any concrete news?

  3. "2. Fun Spot Action Park

    • Purchased 10 acres that will triple the size of the current park

    • Conceptual new attractions to could include: New go kart track, large Statue of Liberty themed slide, splash park with flowrider.

    • Short terms plans will include a paintball field, batting cages & 100 foot skycoaster.

    • Projected new attractions could come by 2013"

Thanks for your interest in our expansion plans. Just to update, I'd like to go point by point.

You are correct, the park will go from 5 acres to a total of 15 acres.

We will definitely add another exciting multi-level go kart track.

We are working with WTI (Water Technology, Inc.) and SplashTacular to design a small, but fun-packed water park. WTI did the Aquatica Park at Sea World. The water park is in the early stages of design. Any concepts you have seen were proposals, not approved designs. A Statue of liberty slide and a FlowRider are not currently in the plans.

A paintball field and batting cages are not currently in our plans for the expansion. We will possibly have a 150' SkyCoaster.

We will have a classicly styled wood roller coaster, but with the latest hybrid wood/steel engineering & technology. We will also have a steel suspended family coaster.

There will also be lots of other additional rides, new landscaping, and all new theming. The new park will be rebranded as Fun Spot America. We expect portions of the expanded park to be open in 2013. We're very excited about the future of Fun Spot and we really appreciate your interest. We'll be making public more specific plans in the coming months.

    Thanks, Patrick Tuten
Creative Director - Fun Spot America

  4. Thank you very much, Mr. Tuten! We really appreciate that you gave us some additional information. We certainly look forward to Fun Spot's expansion (and whenever I hear the word "theming", I suddenly become happier!). We will update the post right away. Thank you again!

  5. I second the administrators thanks to Mr Tuten! It's refreshing that an attractions director can take time out to clarify discussions or rumours on a message board and appears to take a genuine interest in opinions of its potential customers (both good and bad!)
I like both fun spot locations as a good way to spend an evening after a day in a major theme park. Its also good that both locations are looking to constantly upgrade or add to their attractions.

As a roller coaster addict, the news regarding Fun Spots new coasters is interesting, and while I appreciate Fun Spot's desire for something new, the nostalgist in me yearns to hear that two classic Florida "woodies" have been saved. Alas it won't be by Fun Spot (at the moment at least)but I live in eternal hope!
