Meet Winnie the Pooh in His New Area

Winnie the Pooh has called Critter Country at Disneyland Park home since the opening of “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” attraction in 2003. Recently, though, planned horticulture work in the land gave the Creative Entertainment team an opportunity to enhance the area where Guests meet the silly ol’ bear. The new location encompasses three distinct environments. The Gathering Spot is a shaded nook overlooking a grassy meadow. Rabbit’s Garden is just around the corner. Finally, Guests find themselves in Hunny Hollow, where Pooh’s favorite food is in plentiful supply.
The greeting location has a very natural, less cartoonish feel about it, befitting its Critter Country surroundings. According to the project’s art director, Brian Sandahl, “We’ve gone to a more classic Pooh look. We’re applying a brown color wash to many of the props to give them a bit of a sepia tone and make it more like the Hundred Acre Wood. It’s very much a reflection of the original Pooh, which was kind of brought back with the last movie.

Fans are sure to appreciate all the nods to the Pooh films present in the new greeting location. There are even elements, like the red balloon and scarecrow, from the summer 2011 animated feature, “Winnie the Pooh,” which comes to Blu-ray, DVD and digital download Oct. 25.
Brian continues, “We’ve installed all new trees, planters, landscaping and more. It should be quite charming!
