Downtown Disney: "Magnetron" Closes, BLINK Opens

Downtown Disney has been adding, taking away and moving things around a lot in the past few years, and they are very far from being done! Indeed, the plans for Hyperion Wharf have been put on hold, and now they're re-imagining Pleasure Island a third time. In the meantime, many more, smaller changes will soon take place in other areas of Downtown Disney. Take a look:

Downtown Disney Plans Update

In November, we shared plans to re-imagine Pleasure Island at Downtown Disney and bring other new and compelling experiences to life at Downtown Disney. Many of the experiences we announced have already become guest favorites, such as the newly expanded LEGO Imagination Center and AMC’s first fork and screen theater in Florida.
Work continues on bringing our vision for Downtown Disney to life and we are excited to announce two experiences that will be coming to Downtown Disney over the coming months:
  • Splitsville, a 50,000-square-foot upscale entertainment center that combines bowling with billiards, dining, music and nightlife;
  • Apricot Lane, a specialty retail store that offers celebrity-inspired branded apparel, affordable fashion jewelry, handbags and accessories.
  • Magnetron at Downtown Disney West Side will be closing at the natural end of the store’s contract Sept. 30
    • In place of Magnetron, a new operating participant will be joining the Downtown Disney family: BLINK by Wet SealBLINK by Wet Seal brings fresh fashion to the Downtown Disney West Side, featuring apparel, denim and accessories for women, teens and children. At this denim destination, Guests will find anything from private label Wet Seal jeans to today’s top denim brands plus a wide assortment of tops and accessories.
Joining its counterpart at Disneyland Resort, shown here, BLINK by Wet Seal
will offer denim apparel and more for women, teens and children when it opens
at Downtown Disney West Side this fall.
  • Plus, later this fall, Sunglass Icon by Sunglass Hut at Downtown Disney West Side will undergo a complete transformation to become a flagship store, complete with cutting edge technology and the latest in sunglass fashion from around the world.
To make room for these additional venues and to build onto the progress that has already been made at Downtown Disney, Orlando Harley-Davidson has moved to its new permanent location on the West Side and RIDEMAKERZ will relocate to the Marketplace.

It is very sad to see Magnetron going away! It was one of the nicest stores to be found in the West Side...
We are absolutely not fans of this new BLINK store, but, as the article says, it will focus on women, teens and kids. To me, this concept looks awfully similar to the "Apricot Lane" store, which is also opening soon.
It looks like it is time for us to go back to Downtown Disney, to see all these changes, so stay tuned for a future Downtown Disney photographic update!

  1. Disney needs to be getting MORE retailers to fill in the empty spaces and new locations in the pleasure island area, not loosing reliable great stores and exchanging one for the other! In my opinion just a bad business decision with no foresight to the coming expansion on Disney's part.

  2. GRRR! Why is is that all the unique and awesome stores always get replaced with stupid clothing stores...The only good coming out of this expansion is Splitsville, It actually sounds really fun! as long as they keep Ridemakerz and DisneyQuest, I am happy..

  4. I'm pretty upset that they closed down ALL the clubs!! I couldn't wait to be 18, to go to the clubs, it was very dissapointing!! They should open at least two or three clubs in Pleasure Island!!

    Just saying =)
