Fantasyland Skyway to be demolished - CONFIRMED

Yes, those rumors about the Skyway demolition were true! This is going to be a great new area for the Magic Kingdom, and we will explain to you WHERE these works are going to be, WHY this move is necessary, and WHAT they could include there.

First of all, WHERE are they going to work?
That would be the Fantasyland Skyway, as we stated before. Here's a photo of the location:

As you can see, this is one of the nicest-looking spots in Fantasyland, right? I will miss it too, but since it was always closed, and since it will bring a lot of positive things, we are one hundred percent happy about this.

Then, WHY do they have to demolish it?
Well, since its closure many years ago, the station was going to be demolished, because it was of no use anymore, but they decided that it looked good anyway, and it added theming to the already poor-themed area (Peter Pan's Flight and "It's A Small World" are themed after cheap medieval tends), so why spending money on it?
  1. Now though, after some years, issues began to come up. First of all, they needed to expand the path that lead to Liberty Square, because it was (and, as of now, it still is) way too small to accommodate even the lightest crowds. They needed to make a bigger (or double) pathway.
  2. Also, they needed a bigger set of bathrooms. Everybody knows that Peter Pan's bathrooms are the worst in the park. They're small, always crowded, and the only ones in that really busy path.
  3. In addition to all that, now they need to implement the new next-generation queue system to Peter Pan's Flight, so they need to make the queue area bigger. And, how do you do that? By taking out the bathrooms. As one of the members of Discussion Kingdom commented, this is a domino effect.
WHAT could be included in this small "expansion"?
They will build a second pathway, that leads directly to the front of the ex-Fastpass Machine for the Mansion. This may cause it to be demolished, because it would only be in the way, and since they're building the new interactive queue, there MAY be no need of another extended queue (again, the domino effect). As you can see, there will be some water effects (that we love!), and new bathrooms will be built on the place of the old Skyway. Will it include a new stroller parking for "it's a small world" and Peter Pan's Flight? Absolutely.

So, what do you think about this?

  1. Agreed.
Sad to see it go, but the changes will definitely be welcomed.
Always way so crowded in that small walkway.

  2. Even more construction in construction land! the place will look great in a few years at least!

  3. This sounds great as long as they provide some great theming. The skyway building was very beautiful, so as long as they build something just as nice, I don't see any reason to not tear it down.

  4. When will they start demolition?

  5. Its sad that they only maintained the exterior. This is probably a contributing reason for demolition:

As you can see the interior is pretty much beyond repair. We all know TDO isn't going to spend the money to do a real rehab to the interior so theyd instead just rip it out.

The skyway is one of the more memorable parts of my first visit however.

  6. I've been readying about the rumors about the Smucker's store being demolished to make the walk way bigger. Wouldn't be surprised if the new plan has been modified to just expand the existing walkway.

If they did two walkways, they may not be able expand the HM exit. There has always been the rumor that they want to expand the HM exit to include a true gift shop and possibly a on-ride Photo. I could see them using this time to redo the exit to setup the infrastructure for a potential Hitchhiking Ghosts on-ride photo. But it would require a larger exit and store.

    Either way... very exciting!

  7. Dagru they can do two walkways and expand the exit to include a gift shop and photo viewer.

There is alot of room they can work with in that location with the skyway and building removed entirely.

  8. It is sad because it was always a perfect backdrop for the Christmas character meet n greets. I miss the Skyway and this structure is pretty but useless. In February it was a stroller parking lot. So many changes - I can't wait for 2012!

  9. They need to re-install the skyway on a new route somewhere, then the park would be complete again.
