Disney in confusion????

(Don't read if you don't want to get confused about Disney new additions, etc..!!!)

If you like me are following the works and news about Walt Disney World in various Forums, you are likely VERY confused about Fantasyland Expansion!!!

Why? Here's the explanation:

According to some forums (like WDWMagic and others), the new Fantasyland project has DRASTICALLY changed! No more Cinderella manor or Aurora's cottage!! That may sound like a good news, but if they're cutting those, what are we going to see in their place? Grass?? i would like to see a cottage (even though I won't go inside) instead of just grass!

What about the double Dumbo? Some say it has been cancelled too!

Pixie Hollow has been ALMOST CERTAINLY been cancelled, as many sources have confirmed, so don't even wonder about that.

But there's yet another news! The Main Street Electrical Parade may remain to WDW until... 2012!!

From WDWMagic:

"The most recent outcome of that rethink was the easy decision TDA made to allow the Electrical Parade to remain out in Florida until 2012 (if it ever comes back, at this point)."

"While the original agreement last winter to send the Electrical Parade out to Florida originally caused some consternation amongst TDA executives, the thought now is that Anaheim has simply moved beyond the parade, although there is a faction in the Entertainment Department emotionally attached to it after their extensive refurbishment and refresh they lovingly gave it in ‘09. But the casual shoulder shrug shown by locals when the parade said goodbye this past April didn’t help much either. It’s now clear to TDA that West Coast audiences have fallen for World of Color, and there’s no longer a need for the aging 20th century Electrical Parade."

Can you believe that? And what's even stranger is that Disney California Adventure... doesn't want it anymore, because it's obsolete for them! What?? it was there until early this year!

So, to put all the information together:

- The Little Mermaid Dark Ride: CONFIRMED (it WILL be built, don't worry!)
- Gaston's Tavern: CONFIRMED
- Beast's Castle and "Be our Guest" restaurant: CONFIRMED
- Aurora's Cottage: UNKNOWN
- Cinderella's manor: UNKNOWN
- Double Dumbo: UNKNOWN
- Barnstormer re-themed: UNKNOWN
- Pixie Hollow: CANCELLED (not official, but strong rumor)
- M.S. Electrical Parade: TO STAY UNTIL 2012??

I don't know about you, but I'm very confused now!!!

  1. I am shocked. After they made a big deal about all this princess, Dumbo and pixie hollow stuff at the D23 event they are just going to scratch it and do something else. They have already cleared the land and everything. And now we are going to have the Main Street Electrical Parade till 2012. I was hopping for an updated version of Spectromagic after it was done doing its time. i hope this is all just a rumor.

  2. Sounds like a lack of leadership. I thought the Fantasyland expansion was dumb from the get-go. It appealed to one very age-specific gender.

Am I the only one tired of WDW getting DL cast-offs and replica rides?

  3. Wow, at least the three main additions are staying. I really do wish that it was more open to different genders. Maybe Disney realized- "Hey this is waaay to girly."

IMHO they need to add another big ride to make this a real expansion at this point, not just 2 restaurants and a ride.

  4. It's all a mess...
Of course, I hope too that these may just be rumors, but unfortunately MANY forums (that usually know a lot about what's going on behind the scenes of the parks) said these things... I am very confused now!!!

  5. I think we all are!
I just wish they would hold a Winter D23 meeting in WDW to discuss all of this!

  6. Too Girly for me so I hope they get it right the 2nd time around .I do think it was a rushed idea to compete with WWof Harry Potter so Im proud of Disney to see that they have the thinking caps on and what on paper looked absolutly fantastic (although only for girls eccept Ariel) will now turn out even better.
Now where is our Toon Town????? Mickey and Minnie have to have a place to sleep ;-)

  7. I think too that the area is too girly, but I would choose Aurora's cottage or Cinderella's mansion over an empty lot any day, as I stated before... wouldn't you?
Of course, if they want to build another dark ride, then they're very welcome! But what about Toontown? is it going away now?
I personally hope so, only for the fact that our version is really cheap compared to the one in California and Tokyo....

  8. Wow! So they announce it, and several months away, it's wet papers put on hold.

This addition was very limited on its target (is it really necessary to have all of this princesses mess taking more than the half of Fantasyland?) and I was very happy to see depart the Fairy Gardens (or so it was called).

But it seems it's most a question of budget -I hope to be wrong-. Maybe it's time to re-think all of this project. Not all of the population of Fantasyland are girly tweenies so, maybe they can put something less embarrassing and more attractive to all genders and ages.

And a last thing to say: I miss some creativity. Is it really necessary to copy the Little Mermaid ride? Can't be done anything different? 'Cos it doesn't motivate to move you from one resort to another, if by the end you just find the very same...
