Universal Installs LED Lights Outside AMC Cinemas

Universal Orlando is really attentive to details, and this is noticeable by seeing the level of theming of their attractions (especially at Islands of Adventure, which is constantly nominated as one of the best theme parks on the planet for its theming and attractions). Recently, Universal's Show Quality Team has worked on a project that may see minor, but that is certainly very important, as it refers to one of the first structures guests see when they enter CityWalk: The AMC Theater's Circular atrium. Here's what they did:

UNIVERSAL'S CITYWALK ENHANCEMENT

The [Universal Orlando] Show Quality team has been addressing improvements in both parks [and CityWalk] all year... One of largest projects that the team completed in 2011 was reinventing the circular structure or “drum” on the second level of the AMC Universal Cineplex 20. The Show Quality team worked to enhance the drum, by repainting the structure and adding a new LED high-tech lighting system that saves approximately 12,000 kilowatts of power. The multi-colored lights can be programmed to coincide with music for a dazzling show. “This project was a huge undertaking and was a very long process due to the location of work. It took a team effort to pull this off with little impact to our guests,” says Scott Lewis, Manager of Show Quality. Much of the Show Quality team’s efforts could not be possible without the help from the different departments within Technical Services. “The project required many internal and external partnerships and support from our Operations team which made it possible.” The new CityWalk drum can easily be seen from I-4 and is a shining example of this team’s impact.

As you have read, the exterior of Universal's AMC Theaters now has incredible lights that can put on a show, even dancing along with the surrounding music! This finally explains the big machine that has been in the middle of the AMC Cinemas Plaza for many months, back in 2011 (photos of that can be found here)...

  1. Isn´t the lower part going to be the entrance to the mini golf?
I like how they keep this all so fresh and new.

  2. If you don't mind me asking, where do you get these internal Universal and Disney updates from? They are awesome, I'd just love to be able to access them on my own!

  5. Interesting. I post a comment about how your Disney information is obtained, in a manner against TWDC policy, and the comment is removed. There is no "About" or information on who the site admins are, aside from the generic OTPN addresses. If readers are curious as to how your information is obtained, I feel it is only fair they know. I also feel like TWDC also has a right to know that the information they claim as their own, is being distributed in a manner that is forbidden.

  6. We rarely have to remove comments, but we had to do so in this case because it was deliberately attacking our site. What we share with our readers is PUBLIC information. Everything that we post here is what cast members are free to share "WITH GUESTS." We would never share information that would be considered confidential. If posting that Blizzard Beach will be closed tomorrow or that there are changes to the Disney Dining Plan are considered confidential, then I would be really surprised.
In addition to that, well-established sites like WDWMagic, WDWNewsToday, or Inside The Magic use the same sources we use (not counting "insiders," of course).
