Rivers of Light Grand Opening Delayed at Animal Kingdom

With the expansion of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Guests will soon be given even more opportunities to celebrate the wonders of our natural world as the day turns into night. While the Walt Disney World Resort hoped to debut these offerings on April 22, unfortunately, they will not open as planned on that date as more time is being given to the team working to bring these innovative experiences to life in a way that will exceed the expectations of Guests.

The official Disney Parks Blog also released a new photo of the show earlier this morning. Take a look:

Here is also a short video showing the awakening of the Tree of Life, which will happen multiple times:

We expect to receive an update regarding the new opening date for these offerings by mid- to late-May.

  1. Gotta love PR people. Everything cloud has that silver lining.

"more time is being given to the team working to bring these innovative experiences to life in a way that will exceed the expectations of Guests"

Something's broken, or not working as they thought it would, so they need more time to get it all sorted out. No problem.

PS: Disney lost control of guest expectations a long time ago in a galaxy far away. When the new popcorn supply contract gets a forensic examination and the change is deemed 'cringe worthy' by the anxious lifestylers - Disney can never deliver enough.

  2. Yes, we reported almost verbatim what they wrote. It is clear that they are trying to say (hide?) that they have encountered problems they were not expecting.

  3. Yeah, its complicated stuff.
And it might break once in awhile during a show too, and that's just part of the ...... sing it with me... Circle of Life...

  4. Although having the show functional would be wonderful, I'm just looking forward to the late evening hours again in AK. Wish they could open the park up late starting on the 22nd even if they're still working on getting the show together.

  5. Sad another Mickey Mouse construction job. This is the only thing in decades that Disney was confident enough to put a date on. I'm still waiting for the three year overlay of Malestom to Frozon to open in spring 2016 or did it get pushed back to summer/fall. I guess they are doing it for worker safety because no one should have to be annoyed by a jackass snowman or let it go for more then a hour a day.

I find it funny that Universal's King Kong started construction years after Soarin Over Avatar and will open at least a full year or more before it with a brand new custom ride system. I can see why Tom Staggs quit
