Multiple Construction Projects on Discovery Island

As part of the largest expansion in the history of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park (which includes many different projects), construction walls will be installed to support enhancements around Discovery Island the week of June 8, 2014. In fact, beginning Sunday, new walls will surround the Disney Outfitters store and will extend to the current coffee kiosk, Isle of Java. During this phase of the construction, Isle of Java and Disney Outfitters will remain open.

This phase of work includes the expansion of Disney Outfitters, as well as a new habitat for the cotton-top tamarins. The shop will remain open while work takes place; however the cotton-top tamarins will be moved offstage temporarily in July until their new home is ready.

Work will also begin near Flame Tree Barbecue June 10, 2014 to build a new coffee kiosk. No operational impacts are expected for Flame Tree Barbecue during this time. The construction of the new coffee kiosk will continue until September. Additional details will be shared as an opening date is determined.

Due to construction-wall installation, the fixed FastPass+ kiosk at Disney Outfitters, across from Island Mercantile, will be unavailable beginning June 12. Cast Members with FastPass+ mobile devices will continue to be on the porch of Disney Outfitters, across from Flame Tree Barbecue, until 2 p.m.

All of these changes are preparing the park for a truly exciting future that will feature nighttime offerings, including Kilimanjaro Safaris and Rivers of Light.
