Epcot: Sunshine Seasons Starts Recycling Used Utensils

The Sunshine Seasons restaurant (located inside The Land pavilion at Epcot) has started to do something more to respect the land (living up to the promise of the entire pavilion to care for the environment). Take a look:

In an effort to embrace environmentality and support the green initiatives of The Land at Epcot, the Sunshine Seasons quick service restaurant has found a way to recycle all plastic ware used in the restaurant. Collection bins in two sections of the restaurant are being used for Guests to deposit their used utensils. After the utensils are rinsed of food, they are placed in a collection container on the back dock of Sunshine Seasons to be recycled. The restaurant plans to expand its recycling efforts to include plastic from kids' meals in the future.

While this is definitely a great initiative, we have to say that the way this is currently done is not very safe. The used utensils (with leftover food) are placed in these open containers that attract flies and other animals that may enter the building). In addition to that, there is a very unpleasant smell coming from the container. We really hope they will do something to fix these issues. That being said, we have to commend Sunshine Seasons for trying to find out other ways to recycle, especially since plastic is something that takes a very long time to be absorbed by the environment.

  1. Glad they're doing this, but putting a simple lid with a small opening in it would address the smell and fly factor.
