Latest WDW Permits: Mission Space Facade & More

One of our readers (Dan, who we thank a lot) shared with us a link to some of the latest permits filed by the Walt Disney World Resort, and we were pleasantly surprised that especially one of them is finally addressing an issue that has existed for way too long: the refurbishment of the fading facade of MISSION: Space.

Here you are a quick look at the current state of part of the exterior facade, just to refresh your mind:

Yes, that is totally unacceptable. The ride itself is already unacceptable, but why not take care of the exterior (at least...)? As we said before, though, this issue can almost be considered solved. Here's the permit for the refurbishment work that will soon start:

In addition to that, the Walt Disney World Resort recently filed many more permits. On of them is about work that is currently being done on the roof of the American Adventure attraction's building:

Here's the permit for you to look at:

A few more miscellaneous permits, just for those who love seeing the work that takes place behind the scenes:

- Expansion of Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park's bus stop -

- Work on the roof of Magic Kingdom's Ferry Boat Landing -

- Work on the Liberty Square bridge inside Magic Kingdom -

- Work on Epcot's entrance turnstiles (possibly related to the Next-Gen project) -

- Removal of (*SIGH!*) Epcot's Fountain View Ice Cream Parlor -

- Work on Disney's BoardWalk Resort's themed pool -

And that is all we have for now. Check back in a couple of weeks for a new WDW Permits update!

  1. Interesting that you need a permit to resurface a pool or paint a facade. I get the roof and bridge work, but the others seem somewhat odd. Most be a Florida thing...

  2. Wow, that's a lot of permits, for that kinda work...looks like a money grab, like they all don't get enough because Disney is there..

  3. Although we call these permits (myself included) they are actually Notices of Commencement. These indicate that a contractor's work is about to begin and are an important part of assuring that the contractor gets paid on time.

  4. ..also this is just a small sampling of the Notices. Disney files 1349 of these in 2012.

  5. Thanks for the info Dan. I'm still not sure I get it. Don't you just pay the contractor when the job is complete? :-)

  6. Jason: If you want the answer to that try searching on the permit site for Disney Liens. Some very interesting stuff there.
