This Week: The Magic Carpets of Aladdin opened at Walt Disney World Resort on May 23, 2001 in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom Park. Inspired by the Disney movie Aladdin, this popular attraction has you take flight over Agrabah on an ‘enchanted’ carpet.

May 20 
1973 – Tom Sawyer Island, the Plaza Swan Boats, and the Richard F. Irvine Riverboat open at Magic Kingdom Park
1994 – The Return of Jafar (direct-to-video sequel of Aladdin) is released
1996 – Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf and Garden Pavilion opens at the Walt Disney World Resort
2011 – Star Tours – The Adventures Continue opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
2011 – Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides debuts

May 21
1948 – The animated short Donald’s Dream Voice debuts
1954 – Pigs Is Pigs special cartoon is released
1961 – Wonders of the Water World television show debuts

May 22
1942 – The Army Mascot (Pluto cartoon) is released
1998 – Rocket Rods, Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, Astro Orbiterand Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port open as part of a renovated Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park
2009 – The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Storydocumentary about the careers of the song-writing team, Richard and Robert Sherman, has a limited release in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Palm Springs, Calif.

May 23
2001 – The Magic Carpets of Aladdin opens at Magic Kingdom Park
2014 – “Rock Your Disney Side Party” keeps Disneyland Park, Magic Kingdom Park and Disney California Adventure Parkopen a full 24 hours, starting at 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. the following day
2015 –Harambe Market area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park opens

May 24
1996 – Hollywood Pictures releases Spy Hard
2013 – “Monstrous Summer All-Nighter” keeps Disneyland Park, Magic Kingdom Park and Disney California Adventure Parkopen a full 24 hours, starting at 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. the following day

May 25
1983 – Village Haus Restaurant in Fantasyland at Disneyland Park opens; renamed the Red Rose Taverne in 2017
2011 – Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar and Tangaroa Terrace open at the Disneyland Hotel
2013 – “Mickey and the Magical Map” premieres at Disneyland Park

May 26
1990 – Mickey’s Starland opens at Magic Kingdom Park
2000 –Touchstone Pictures/Spyglass Entertainment release Shanghai Noon
2006 – Disney·Pixar’s Carspremieres at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.
