This Week in Disney History: August 20-26

This week: 
The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! debuted at Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios) on August 25, 1989. Guests visiting the park can still watch Indy as he dodges spikes, evades fire traps, and races a giant boulder that threatens to flatten him like a pancake - all in his quest to obtain the golden idol. You can even take part in the adventure as a brave audience volunteer included in the magic of stunt work and filmmaking.

Aug. 20 
1928 – “Hot Dog,” the final Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short produced by Disney, debuts
1932 – “Trader Mickey,” a Mickey Mouse cartoon short, debuts

Aug. 21 
1992 – Asia’s first Disney Store opens in Yokohama, Japan
2004 – “Brandy & Mr. Whiskers,” a Disney Channel animated series, debuts

Aug. 22
1929 – “The Skeleton Dance” (the first Silly Symphony cartoon) debuts
1956 – Carefree Corner, a Guest registration area, opens at Disneyland Park
1987 – The Grand Lobby Tower was placed atop Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
1997 – The film “G.I. Jane” was released by Hollywood Pictures in association with Scott Free Productions and Largo Entertainment.
2008 – Disney Channel Original Movie, ”The Cheetah Girls One World,” the third in the Cheetah Girls series, premiered

Aug. 23
1997 – Disney Channel original movie “Northern Lights” appeared on television
1999 – Hollywood Scoops, an ice cream shop, opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
2002 –  Disney Channel original movie “Ring of Endless Light” appeared on television

Aug. 24
1942 – The animated film “Saludos Amigos” premieres worldwide
1989 – Ewok Village opened at the entrance to the Star Tours attraction in Disney-MGM Studios
2001 – Touchstone Pictures film “Bubble Boy” was released
2002 – Disney California Adventure Park hosts the first ABC Primetime Preview Weekend

Aug. 25
1985 – Disneyland Park welcomes its 250 millionth Guest
1989 – Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
2006 – “The Cheetah Girls 2” Disney Channel Original Movie was released on television
2006 – “Invincible” was released on film by Walt Disney Pictures and Mayhem Studios

Aug. 26
1949 – “Tennis Racquet” (Goofy cartoon short) debuts
1994 – “Camp Nowhere” is released by Hollywood Pictures
2009 – The keel laying ceremony for the Disney Dream cruise ship is held in Papenburg, Germany
