Volcano Bay Update: Grand Opening Day is Getting Closer

In a little over a month and a half, Universal Orlando's Volcano Bay will officially open to Guests, featuring amazing water slides, two lazy rivers, a virtual queuing system, a unique selection of food & beverage offerings, interactive elements, and more. Seeing this  area changing from an empty plot of land to an immersive water park has been very exciting, but it looks like the finish line is just around the corner. As you will see in the following photos, the park looks almost ready to welcome its first Guests.

First of all, the majority of the scaffolding that used to surround the Krakatau is gone:

Some of the slides found inside the volcano are still covered:

New stairs were recently installed on the side of the volcano:

The slides that are visible from the road look ready to open:

  1. Still don't understand how people can say this is "immersive" when you will be climbing stairs and looking right down onto I4 and Turkey Lake Road traffic.

  2. THANK YOU!!! I'm not quite sure what Universal Creative was thinking. Pretty park but they could of blown it out of the water and done way better.

  3. This isn't groundbreaking or immersive at all. It's got those samn damn rainbow tube slides and steel towers like every other water park everywhere. I guess the theme is 'Urban Sprawl' - I'm sure it will be fun and all that blah blah- but this isn't the amazing feat i was expecting when they first starting talking about this park.

  4. Typhoon Lagoon is still way better. Typhoon Lagoon opened almost 28 years ago and still looks just as advanced if not better. Typhoon Lagoon is immersive. With all that being said I am excited for Volcano Bay, I just think it could've been done much better as well.

  5. I am not a fan of the Disney water parks. Not laid out very well, getting food is a pain, feet burn everywhere, except for some stand outs, rides just OK. Even though smaller, I love Sea Worlds Aquatica, Laid out great, easy to get around, great wave pools. Hope Universal can rival Aquatica. I'm not worried about seeing the highways while waiting in a ride queue, but I'm sure the main beach/wave pool will be Amazing!

  6. We loved the Wet and Wild water park as it had loads of rides to choose from. Volcano bay doesn't look as if it has as many so therefor mor crowds and queues to be expected. Not good for me. What a shame you couldn't have revamped wet and wild so you had two water parks. We don't need more hotels

  7. Wow...Calling someone an idiot is a real nice response to a simple opinion.

  8. Not a water park fan myself but I do agree with Michael. Calling someone an idiot for expressing an opinion isn't clever.
    Just saying............

  9. Anyone who thought this was going to be completely immersive are gullible. Of course it's not going to be when your looking from above. It's just the reality of the situation, Universal consciously chose this spot so the best they can do is to cover up spots for people on the ground.

  11. Because this is Universal. The second largest theme park company in the world Im guessing. They should have shaken up the entire industry and put fourth a water park that would have changed the games. Just like they did with Harry Potter. No, we get a snazzedup version of a water park right down the street. Universal creative is slacking unless they had big budget cuts and if so then why even bother doing it if you can't do it right. Hopefully they get back in the game with Nintendo

  12. All the Orlando water parks are good, some have better things than others but they're all solid.Typhoon obviously feels very tropical and immersive with no nearby streets like Aquatiuca or Volcano bay will have.Blizzard Beach is fun but I'm not a fan of the layout.I think Volcano is going to be similar to Aquatica which is fine as Aquatica is a very good park and the Roas Rapids fast lazy river is one of the best attractions at any of the parks.I'll wait until I visit to truly judge Volcano but its a water park,Universal might be calling it a theme park or a themed water park but that's just them marketing it lime their third park so everyone and their uncle is forced to visit it,IMO its a water park!

  13. Merlin is the 2nd biggest theme park company not Comcast. I would have loved to seen the water rides themed to suit the rides.
