Universal Orlando Update: Take a Tour of Both Theme Parks

While we usually post two separate updates showing what's new at Universal Studios Florida and the neighboring Islands of Adventure, today we will be sharing with you all the pictures that we took around the resort during our most recent visit (we visited the Universal Orlando Resort yesterday afternoon). As you will see, Jurassic Park River Adventure is currently closed for refurbishment at Islands of Adventure, while the two brand-new attractions continue to take shape at Universal Studios Florida.

In-park Ticket Sales Location Change at Magic Kingdom Park

Guests visiting the Magic Kingdom Park will soon be able to enjoy a more convenient in-park ticket sales location found inside Liberty Square. As early as March 6, the new Liberty Square Ticket Office will open for park Guests in the location currently known as Heritage House, located in front of the Hall of Presidents. The current in-park ticket sales location within the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. (also known as the Space Mountain shop) will have its final day of operation on Wednesday, March 1, 2017.

New "Bon Voyage Breakfast" Coming to Disney's BoardWalk

Not too long ago, the Walt Disney World Resort announced that an all-new character dining experience will be coming to Trattoria al Forno at Disney’s BoardWalk. As part of the new "Bon Voyage Breakfast," Guests will have the opportunity to meet beloved Disney characters including Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, Ariel, and Prince Eric. Breakfast will begin with your choice of a mixed berry parfait or fresh fruit salad and a frying pan of pastries featuring braided breakfast bread and clam shell pastries.

SeaWorld Orlando Update: Seven Seas Food Festival (Part 1)

SeaWorld Orlando is an absolutely stunning park. The gorgeous flowers, plants, and animals seen around this theme park beautifully complement the rides and attractions that Guests know and love. In addition to that, there's something new to see each time we visit the park, meaning that repeated visit never end up being boring (even though some of the changes are definitely subtle). Today we will take a tour of SeaWorld to see what's new since the last time we walked around the park. Enjoy the pictures.

In the previous part, we walked around the area adjacent to the entrance of the park of the park, the beautiful Waterfront, and a section of Antarctica. Alto Mayo Coffee Now Available at Disney Parks & Resorts

Alto Mayo Protected Forest Coffee roasted by Joffrey’s Coffee is now served at select restaurants across Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort as part of their press pot coffee service. This high-quality, organic coffee is grown in Peru as part of a Conservation International project that aids to protect forests and promotes economic development for the region. This product is available at several Signature restaurants (listed below) and will be added to the menu at select Table-Service locations in May. 

FastPass+ Kiosk in Africa to Move at Disney's Animal Kingdom

With the introduction of new guidemaps on Sunday, Feb. 26, the FastPass+ kiosk in Africa will move from its current location near the Dawa Bar to a new location near the Kilimanjaro Safaris standby queue. Guests looking for assistance with entitlements or booking can be directed to any of the three kiosks locations in our park: in Africa, in Asia near Kali River Rapids or on Discovery Island, near Island Mercantile. Of course, Guests can also make FastPass+ selections through the My Disney Experience app.

Atlanta Braves Spring Training at ESPN Wide World of Sports

The Atlanta Braves return for their 20th Spring Training season to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex February 25. Champion Stadium will host the Atlanta Braves’ 18-game season, which welcomes the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Astros, New York Mets, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Baltimore Orioles. All daily Braves practices (located at Champion Stadium and Baseball Quad) are open to the public.

Madame Tussauds Unveils New Photo Technology Experience

Madame Tussauds Orlando recently unveiled a new interactive guest experience in the themed room that features Brazilian soccer star Neymar da Silva Santos Jr.
In addition to featuring this popular wax figure, the attraction has added a one-of-kind customized camera system that utilizes a total of 40 different cameras and 488 million megapixels to stitch together a unique photo of fans interacting with Neymar’s figure. These cameras capture 40 photos in less than one second to produce a GIF image.

Beauty and the Beast Musical Coming to Disney Cruise Line

In the past two weeks, amidst the chorus of new announcements coming out of Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Cruise Line revealed some exciting news of their own.
On November 6, 2017, a new musical production of “Beauty and the Beast,” inspired by the live action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, will debut on the Disney Dream. This all-new show will join the incredible lineup of Broadway-style productions like “The Golden Mickeys” and “Disney’s Believe” at the Walt Disney Theatre.

Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival Returns March 1

Epcot will kick off its 90-day celebration of spring, the 2017 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, on Wednesday, March 1. More than 30 million blooms will blanket the park during the festival, and some new friends will join the lineup of more than 100 signature topiaries, but this Guest-favorite event offers delights for more than just the eyes. The Garden Rocks Concert Series brings the sounds of Top 40 hits from across the decades to the America Gardens Theatre stage three times Friday-Monday.

LEGOLAND Florida Introduces New App for Mobile Devices

Planning a road trip to LEGOLAND? Then, you are invited to join Captain Brickbeard, Surfer Girl, the World’s Greatest Adventurer, and the Good Knight for a road trip of epic proportions with Quest to LEGOLAND, an all-new GPS adventure game built for kids. Kids can follow a LEGO Minifigure on a route to the theme park that’s mapped in real-time using GPS. Along the way, they’ll unlock themed missions, answer trivia and learn about the world around them as landmarks they pass pop up on their screen.

New "Caring for Giants" Experience Debuts at Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment team will launch a new Guest experience March 12 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom called "Caring for Giants." Caring for Giants is a new family-friendly, paid-for adventure highlighting Disney's conservation efforts with African elephants in the wild, including the Elephants and Bees project. During this 60-minute experience, Guests will see the elephant herd from a newly created viewing area on Kilimanjaro Safaris' savanna and meet with dedicated animal care experts. 

Blizzard Beach Bus Not Available at Animal Kingdom Lodge

Effective now, all Guests staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge who wish to go to Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park will have to transfer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park (the park's bus stop is where the majority of Disney resort Guests have to transfer when going to the water park, with the exception of Disney's All-Star Resorts and the nearby Coronado Springs Resort). There will no longer be a direct bus from Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge to Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park.

Serengeti Night Safari Returning to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

When visiting Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, one of the unique experiences that Guests are able to enjoy is the option to embark on the award-winning Serengeti Safari. On this tour, guests have the opportunity to see African animals up close, such as zebras, giraffes and ostriches while learning the importance of protecting their species in the wild. During the winter and spring, Busch Gardens puts a twist on this safari and offers the guest-favorite Serengeti Night Safari, which takes place after park close.

Guests Can Pose with Oscar Statuette at Hollywood Studios

Guests that will be visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be able to pose for a photo with an Oscar statuette through Sunday, February 26, 2017. The “My Oscar Moment” photo opportunity will be available inside Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream (the walk-through exhibit located within Animation Courtyard) during regular park hours. There, Guests can walk the red carpet and pose in front of a backdrop that is very similar to the one that winning celebrities will use on February 26 at the 89th Academy Awards.

New Culinary Experience Coming to Contemporary Resort

"Celebration at the Top," a new culinary experience, is coming soon to the California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. This new offering can be perfectly summed up in three words: savor, sip, and sparkle. As part of this experience, Guests will check in to the private rooms in the California Grill one hour prior to Magic Kingdom fireworks. There, they will be able to enjoy bar offerings (which are included in the price) as well as a variety of small plates, including canapés, sushi rolls, flatbreads, and more.

LEGOLAND Florida to Host Batman Movie Days in March 2017

The scene-stealing super hero will headline the LEGO Batman Movie Days during two event weekends at LEGOLAND Florida Resort. Guests visiting the park on March 4-5 and 11-12, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. will be able to enjoy awesome surprises around the park, including a scavenger hunt, meet and greet opportunities, and much more.
Master Model Builders will even help bring Batman’s greatest villain to life outside The LEGO Factory Experience (the 7-foot-tall model of  Joker will leave you smiling).

Hollywood Studios Update: Star Wars Construction (PART 1)

Disney's Hollywood Studios is undoubtedly underwhelming in its current state, and we are sure many of our Readers will agree with this statement. Even though multiple new exhibits and shows are continuously added to the park's lineup, it is difficult to ignore the fact that more than half of the park is under construction. The good news is that Hollywood Studios (or whatever the park may be called in the future) might very well become one of Central Florida's top five theme parks by the end of the decade.

Mark Woodbury Becomes Vice-Chairman of Universal's Parks

Universal Parks & Resorts recently named Mark Woodbury to the newly created role of Vice Chairman. Woodbury will continue to serve as President of Universal Creative. “Mark has been a driving force for creativity, innovation, growth and development” said Tom Williams, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Universal Parks & Resorts. “As we continue our incredible journey, I am happy that Mark will be by my side, playing a vital role in shaping our future and leading the greatest creative team in the world.”

Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios Maps Updated

New maps for Epcot, Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and Disney's Hollywood Studios will soon be available around the Walt Disney World Resort. Starting Tuesday, Feb. 21, Epcot guidemaps will feature Test Track on the cover again. On Sunday, Feb. 26, both Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios will debut new guidemaps. The map for Animal Kingdom will feature Rivers of Light on the cover, while the Hollywood Studios map will feature a a Stormtrooper on the cover.

Limited Bus Availabilty at ESPN Sports Complex on Feb. 21-22

ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will operate limited bus transportation to/from the Complex on Feb. 21 and 22 due to projections of minimal to zero Guest ridership for those days. For this reason, there will be no Disney bus service from the sports complex to/from Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, or Disney's All-Star Resorts. Mears bus service will be offered to/from Caribbean Beach Resort and Pop Century Resort, but not from the nearby Disney's All-Star Resorts.

Old Town Update: New Ferris Wheel and Entrance Portal

As many of our Readers know, Old Town is a unique walking district located on 192 in Kissimmee (only a few minutes away from Walt Disney World and International Drive) that transports visitors back in time. At Old Town, Guests can stroll down the beautiful, tree-lined brick streets and enjoy over 50 unique shops, restaurants, bars, and family-friendly amusement attractions. This entertainment district is currently being enhanced and will soon open a new Ferris wheel, a themed entrance portal, and much more.

Disney Releases Short Ride Footage of "Na’vi River Journey"

Earlier today, the Walt Disney World Resort surprised fans by releasing a 16-second advertisement that briefly shows on-ride footage of Na’vi River Journey, a new, family-friendly dark ride that Guests will soon be able to enjoy (along with the nearby Flight of Passage attraction and many other unique offerings) inside Pandora - The World of AVATAR when it opens at Disney's Animal Kingdom. In the video you will also be able to see some of the amazing creatures and plants that you'll encounter along the way.

Moonlight Magic Event Returns to the Magic Kingdom Park

Disney Vacation Club Members are invited to enjoy the "Moonlight Magic" event at the Magic Kingdom Park on Friday, Feb. 24 and Friday, March 3 from 10 p.m. - 1 a.m.
During this exclusive after-hours event at Magic Kingdom, Guests will have access to select attractions, complimentary food and beverage offerings and exclusive character greetings. Students Donate Lettuce to SeaWorld for Rescued Manatees

This week, SeaWorld Orlando's Animal Rescue Team received a special gift from the Millennia Gardens Elementary School. The Millennia Gardens Elementary Eco Club grew 1,000 heads of lettuce from their student hydroponics garden and donated the complete harvest to SeaWorld’s Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Program. The lettuce took the Millennia Gardens Elementary Eco Club nearly a month to grow as students and teachers worked alongside each other during their afterschool program.

BB-8 Meet & Greet Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

This spring, Guests visiting Disney's Hollywood Studios will have more Star Wars fun to look forward to when BB-8, the loyal droid from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, begins character greetings at Star Wars Launch Bay. Making his character greeting debut as part of Star Wars Galactic Nights on April 14, BB-8 will appear in addition to Kylo Ren and Chewbacca, two characters from the Star Wars galaxy who regularly encounter Guests at Star Wars Launch Bay, located within Animation Courtyard.

Major Changes Coming to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort

Exciting changes are coming soon to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, starting with a reimagining of the Centertown that will add even more amenities to this centralized dining and shopping marketplace. Beginning this May, several Guest offerings will be unavailable at Centertown/Old Port Royale, and the buildings within Martinique and Barbados islands will be unavailable. Some rumors point to a possible expansion that includes Disney Vacation Club accommodations, but Disney hasn't confirmed that.

Universal Unveils New TapuTapu Wearable for Volcano Bay

Opening on May 25, 2017, Volcano Bay will become Universal Orlando Resort’s third park and further complement the ultimate vacation destination. The new Volcano Bay water park will feature incredibly immersive environments, exhilarating rides, relaxing escapes and amazing technology that eliminates the fuss and maximizes the fun. And just a few days ago, Universal Orlando showed the waterproof TapuTapu wearable for guests to use (at no extra charge) during their day at this amazing water park.

Joffrey’s Revive Coffee Kiosk Coming Soon to Tomorrowland

Guests at Magic Kingdom Park will soon be able to enjoy coffees, teas, and delicious treats at the new Joffrey’s Revive Coffee kiosk near Space Mountain in Tomorrowland.
Opening in March, the new kiosk will offer a beverage exclusive to Magic Kingdom: the More S’mores Latte. The kiosk will also serve Joffrey’s artisan roasted espresso, mixed with rich chocolate sauce, sweet marshmallow syrup, and topped with whipped cream, graham cracker sprinkles, and fluffy marshmallows (available hot or iced).

New 15-Story Tower Coming to Coronado Springs Resort

Major changes are on the horizon at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort over the next two years. The expansion at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort will include a new 15-story tower that will add 500 rooms, featuring suites and concierge level services. The resort will also completely refurbish its current resort rooms (in multiple phases) and transform its landscape with floating gardens and an island oasis that connects the resort through a series of bridges. We can assure you it's going to look spectacular.

Fun Spot Update: Mine Blower Coaster Construction Proceeds

Fun Spot America will open a major new ride in its Kissimmee park later this year. As previously announced, the new Mine Blower wooden coaster will be a $6 million dollar investment and will include an 80-foot drop, reaching a max speed of 48.5 mph. The roller coaster will be 2,256 feet in length and is expected to be open in the summer.
In addition to that, there are a few other changes that we have noticed while walking around the park. Come and join us as we explore this hometown amusement park.

Cast Costuming Building Relocating at Hollywood Studios

As Walt Disney World Resort continues to reimagine the future of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, more changes are expected to take place in backstage areas of the park.
Indeed, later this month, Disney will break ground on a brand-new Cast Costuming facility. Located backstage, this new building will be located in the south east corner of the park. To accommodate this work, the main entrance roadways will shift to the east just after the main auto plaza, and an additional stop sign will be installed nearby.

ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Refurbishments & More

The Walt Disney World Resort has been focusing a lot on enhancing the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the past months. As part of these enhancements, some work will begin to take place inside the Champion Stadium through Feb. 20. This will include multiple crews at the complex for interior painting, re-lamping lights, replacing outfield wall padding, and installing signage. Exterior painting of Champion Stadium, HP Field House, and the Jostens Center was completed on February 15.

Busch Gardens Celebrates National Hippo Day on Feb. 16

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay will celebrate National Hippo Day on Thursday, February 16. Hippos are large African mammals that live in social groups called “bloats”. These vegetarians spend about 16 hours a day in the water to keep their bodies cool in the hot African sun. Currently listed as a vulnerable species, hippos are often hunted for their meat and ivory tusks. The park supports the Uganda Conservation Foundation, which developed ways to monitor the waterways for poachers and wildlife traffickers.

Doc McStuffins Meet & Greet Coming Soon to Animal Kingdom

Later this month, Guests visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be able to meet Disney Junior star Doc McStuffins at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Dottie “Doc” McStuffins is a young girl who talks to the stuffed animals and toys she cares for, diagnosing their “ouchies” with help from her mom (a real doctor) and her Big Book of Boo Boos. Rafiki’s Planet Watch is a perfect fit for her, as the land gives an up-close look at how our animal care professionals provide world-class care for animals in the wild and those in our care.

D-Living Store Featuring "Beauty and the Beast" Theming

D-Living has transformed in celebration of a "tale as old as time" at Disney Springs.
Located in Town Center, D-Living is a home decor store for Guests of every age. Now featuring "Beauty and the Beast" merchandise, housewares, ornaments, and more, D-Living is a must-see for fans of Belle, Beast and enchanted objects galore. The store also carries exclusive merchandise not available anywhere else including four "Beauty and the Beast"-themed shirts as well as amazing artwork and a variety of collectibles.

Islands of Adventure Update: Dudley Do-Right's Refurbishment

A few days ago, we had the chance to go back to Universal's Islands of Adventure to ride a few attractions and to check out what's new since our last visit. While there are no active construction zones inside the park at this time, the existing rides continue to receive some attention. For example, Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls just reopened following a short refurbishment, and Poseidon's Fury received some great upgrades, including new lasers in the second chamber (we'll talk about them another day).

New Bird Experience Test Taking Place at Animal Kingdom

In an ongoing effort to connect park Guests to the magic of nature, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is bringing bird experiences into high-traffic areas of the park. Featuring the unique birds from “Flights of Wonder,” the park's trainers and birds will demonstrate lighthearted and interactive behaviors using stages in Africa and DinoLand U.S.A. In order to accommodate these new experiences, the “Flights of Wonder” showtimes will be adjusted beginning February 13 to 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. daily.

Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort Raise Ticket Prices

On February 12, 2017, Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort raised their ticket prices. The new pricing provides Guests a range of options that allow Disney to better manage the demand while making sure to maximize the Guest experience and keep it consistent. As usual, The Walt Disney Comapny stated that the price increase "is reflective of the distinctly Disney offerings found at all of our parks." In addition to that, some ticket options were changed or removed. Continue reading to learn more.

SeaWorld Facilitates Hearing Test for Rescued Dolphin

SeaWorld Orlando’s Animal Rescue Team has been caring for a rescued male bottlenose dolphin since November 30, 2016. The animal was brought to SeaWorld's Rehabilitation Center after being found stranded in Sanibel, Florida. Last week, SeaWorld Orlando's own veterinary team assisted a representative from NOAA (the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration) with a hearing test on the dolphin. NOAA conducts hearing tests on all stranded cetaceans to confirm their ability to hear and echolocate.

Magic Kingdom Update: Tomorrowland Construction (PART 1)

Just a few days ago, Disney surprised us with the announcement of the addition of "Happily Ever After," the completely new nighttime spectacular that is coming to the Magic Kingdom Park in May. As we wait for that new entertainment offering to debut, we can keep ourselves busy by taking a look around Magic Kingdom and see what's currently being done in the various themed lands of the park. As you will see, there are plenty of refurbishments taking place along Main Street and inside Tomorrowland.

Busch Gardens Announces Additional Food & Wine Concerts

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay continues to spice up the annual Food & Wine Festival with a concert lineup featuring the hottest entertainment in Florida. GRAMMY award-winning trio, The Band Perry, country superstar, Hunter Hayes, “Merengue Queen”, Milly Quezada and Latin chart-toppers, Bachata Heightz and Justin Quiles round out the star-studded lineup kicking off this spring. The popular Festival takes place on weekends from March 4 through April 30 and is included with any park ticket.

Rivers of Light Soft-Opens This Evening at Animal Kingdom

If you haven't heard the news yet, be aware that some Guests visiting Disney's Animal Kingdom this evening will have the opportunity to see Rivers of Light at 7:15 p.m.
FastPass+ is available through My Disney Experience, and is needed for viewing on the Asia side of the theater. The DinoLand U.S.A. side of the theater will be for Disney Vacation Club and Annual Passholders with wristbands, which they are able to get as they enter the park today. As a reminder, Rivers of Light officially debuts on Feb. 17.

Walt Disney World Confirms Opening Year of Star Wars Land

The new Star Wars-themed lands at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland park will be opening in 2019! Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger made this truly exciting announcement during the Walt Disney Company Q1 FY17 Earnings call on Feb. 7.
The Star Wars-themed lands will be the largest-ever, single-themed land expansions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. At each location, Guests will be transported to a never-before-seen planet where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.

New Paddlefish Restaurant Now Open at Disney Springs

Levy Restaurants officially opened Paddlefish, the newest dining experience at Disney Springs, on Saturday, February 4. The seafood-centric restaurant, formerly known as Fulton’s Crab House, has undergone an extensive, multimillion-dollar transformation that involved a full renovation with a brand new design (interior and exterior) that has transformed the vessel into a modern yacht experience. Its new look was inspired by a seafaring yacht with its clean lines, refined woods and sophisticated color palette.
