Universal Reveals Details About "Race Through New York"

In Spring 2017, fans will be immersed in the world of America’s No. 1 late-night talk show “The Tonight Show” in a completely new attraction known as “Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon”. Earlier today, the Universal Orlando Resort revealed new details about the ride, where guests will get up close and personal with the show’s most hilarious segments before taking off on a wild and action-packed race through the city of New York against Jimmy Fallon himself.

The attraction will also feature cameos by familiar faces like Sara from “Ew,” Jimmy in “Tight Pants,” “Tonight Show” announcer Steve Higgins, and Grammy award-winning band, The Roots, who are also the musical masterminds behind the original attraction score.

Here are some additional, never-before-revealed details:

HANG OUT IN STUDIO 6B
Guests can enjoy a special live performance from the Ragtime Gals barbershop quartet in the Studio 6B Club. Plus, guests will have the chance to meet and interact with The Tonight Show's beloved mascot, Hashtag the Panda.

Studio 6B Club will also give guests the opportunity to play host at their own Interactive Desk where they can send Jimmy Fallon’s famous Thank You Notes to their friends and family, prep for their race with a ‘Jimmy Drive’ retro-style video game, and watch their favorite show clips.

GET READY FOR A CRAZY RIDE
Guests will board the world's first-ever flying theater, which seats up to 72 audience members, for their thrilling race against Jimmy Fallon. The race will take guests through the streets of New York City and all the way to the moon and back. They’ll encounter iconic landmarks from the Statue of Liberty to the Empire State Building to everything in between.

EXPLORE THE HISTORY OF THE TONIGHT SHOW
As they step foot into the renowned NBC Studios, guests will get an up-close look at significant moments in the 62-year history of one of television’s most popular franchises, “The Tonight Show.”

In The Tonight Show lobby, guests get VIP access to NBC Studios. They’ll get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see real props and set pieces from one of the longest-running shows in television history – everything from actual suits of past and present hosts to NBC video cameras used to record the show to cue cards used in past episodes.

  1. Unfortunately, this attraction appears to be for the US domestic audience. Being British I have no knowledge of this TV show (or its host). Hopefully it will attract the crowds leaving the other attraction queues shorter for me.

  2. Baker: It is a truly bizarre concept for a theme park attraction. And, it's not as if Mr. Fallon is universally loved in the United States. I find him juvenile and a touch sycophantic.

I wonder if Universal has a back-up plan if he leaves the show. Jimmy Fallon has been dogged by rumors of out of control drinking for years. I honestly hope the rumors are false. Still, it seems unwise to base a multi-million dollar attraction on a person who isn't fictitious.

    1. If you have ever riden soarin at Epcot, this should be a very similar ride experience to it except this will have more motion than soarin and also be more interactive and have more people star in the main role instead of nature. Jimmy Fallon is not someone I watch ever on tv but I see highlight reels in YouTube and completely understand some of those inside show segments like that were shown in the video. It will be funny to everyone not familiar to the show too trust me I'm one of them!

  3. Great looking preview! This ride will surely have a different ride experience making it a unique attraction at the park! Having another ride vehicle design makes for more excitement and more fun! This will also be the equivalent of a more fun, more interactive version of soaring from my take on it!

  4. Fun fact, towards the end of the ride Jay Leno shows up and hijacks your ride vehicle. Leading on a wild chase that ends with you in front of the TBS headquarters.

  5. I have a feeling this will be less like Soarin and more like Corkscrew Hill or Europe in the Air as it is now called at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

  6. I wasn't overly thrilled with this concept at first, mostly because I loved Twister, but it's grown on me. While it will be yet another screen-based attraction, it also looks like it'll be pretty funny. Maybe not for those who can't speak English or have a British style of humor (i.e. it won't revolve entirely around some appreciation of the subtle nuances of verbal irony), but to those of us in this country who actually visit often, it'll be funny.

  7. I'm just glad it's not another "3D" ride. I dislike having to wear 3D glassed over my glasses. ...And I wonder why they had to motion capture Jimmy when they have the real Jimmy.

  8. I agree that us Brits might not be so familiar with Jimmy Fallon, but we all know of New York so the race through the streets and landmarks of the city should be familiar with New York. So even if the other activites are of less interest, the main ride/show should be.

  9. I'm another Englishman and my view is that I prefer to see attractions at the US parks that are based on US themes. I'm less interested in seeing things like Kings Cross station and scenes of London. I live there and see it every day so why would I want to travel to Florida or California to experience things I can see for free ?
I don't know anything about Jimmy Fallon other than he seems to divide opinion. What I do know is that experiencing a ride through NY is more exciting to me.
    Just saying...........

  10. Even if you don't know who Jimmy Fallon is, I personally am not a fan, you can still enjoy the ride because..Well..It's a RIDE and the thrill is the most important part.

  13. See what I mean about polarised opinions of Jimmy Fallon ? Makes me more intrigued about the ride. Can't wait. Just hope I remain ambivalent to this guy.

  14. Love Jimmy Fallon! His dialogs and skits are the best thing to ever be on late night tv here in the states. I'm excited for the ride.
