Epcot Introduces "Zero Waste" Initiative for IllumiNations

IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” is one of Walt Disney World's most beloved and recognized nighttime spectaculars. It has received dozens of awards since its debut in 1999, including 11 consecutive Best Outdoor Night Production Show Golden Ticket Awards. As it looks toward the future, “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” continues to be a forerunner in fireworks shows, as the park's Creative Operations Integration team and technicians work towards zero waste.

The Walt Disney Company has a long-term goal of zero waste, which is defined as diverting more than 90% of waste from landfill or thermal waste-to-energy facilities. To achieve this aggressive goal, all of the Cast at Illuminations will reduce, reuse, and recycle as much waste as possible.

The technicians at the “Illuminations: Reflections of Earth” Fireworks Marina at Epcot were already recycling items on site in the past, including plastic fireworks shells, wood, and cardboard.

  1. What about all the air pollution, greenhouse gases released by these fireworks shows.
What about all the energy used by, and the air pollution/ greenhouse gases produced by the entertainment industry itself?

Behind every Hollywood 'star' spouting off about climate change or energy conservation there is enormous personal hypocrisy. This 'live as we say, not as we do' crowd must be shamed for the huxters they are.

Me? I like fireworks, and dragons spitting fire, and really really liked the shooting flames of the Star Wars segment at World of Color last weekend! What a blast, great show.
