New Kali River Rapids Test at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Between September 27 and October 3, 2015, Guests riding Kali River Rapids at Disney's Animal Kingdom will not be permitted to store personal items on their ride vehicle. Guests will be able to use the complimentary lockers located just across from the attraction’s entrance to secure their belongings for the duration of the ride. This test will conclude on October 4, 2015. Starting from that day, Guests may be once again allowed to carry personal belongings on the ride.

  1. What type of items? "Loose" items like indoor Universal rides, or all items like outdoor Universal coasters?

  2. Good question. This refers to bags and other large items that Guests usually stow in front of them, right in the middle of the ride vehicle. That said, we would suggest using lockers for smaller items as well (such as phones), as they can get wet if left in the pockets.

  3. Our preference has always been to NOT take anything we don't want to get wet. Of course we still have to put our bodies on the ride, so we've not quite accomplished that.. lol

  4. I pray Disney doesn't go the way of Universal and start requiring everyone to use lockers at the various rides. I do like to have my bag with me, but this being Florida *wet* is just part of the normal experience. My camera, phone, and even tissues have their own ziplocks to retreat into if dampness comes along.

  5. I personally think this is more likely to try and improve throughput. Every time I go on Kali the turntable has to be stopped because the boat isn't ready to be dispatched because passengers take so long storing their belongings that they haven't sat down and put on their seatbelt by the time the boat is ready to go.

  6. I agree with Chris. I think this will help improve dispatch speed, and also improve guest experience (getting something wet that shouldn't get wet is a poor guest experience). At the lockers are free, and are conveniently located. So no big deal.
