World Hippo Day Activities at Busch Gardens Tampa

Hippo fans across the world have a great reason to celebrate, as World Hippo Day is coming to Busch Gardens on July 4, 2015. The Edge of Africa will host this world celebration event in style, and we welcome you to join in the fun! Naturally spending most of their day in the water, the hippos at Busch Gardens are in for a bug summer splash with frozen fruit popsicles, watermelons, animal experiences, and tons of interactive fun with the animal staff and you!

World Hippo Day will take place on July 4, 2015, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Hippo Habitat, located within the Edge of Africa exhibit. The Edge of Africa Animal Care Specialists will be available on site to provide great conservation information, fun animal stories, and games for the kids.

Hippos are currently listed as a vulnerable species, often hunted and caught by poacher snares for their fat and ivory tusks. They are also hunted to minimize human-wildlife conflict. The most helpful tool in teaching communities how to live in harmony with hippos in Africa is conservation education. The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation supports the Uganda Conservation Foundation, which ensures hippo safety by undertaking ranger patrols and clearing priority areas of snares and gin traps.
