King Kong Land Update: Painting the Rockwork

Guests walking around Islands of Adventure will easily notice some of the many new details continue to be added to the massive facade of the new King Kong themed attraction, currently under construction near Jurassic Park.
The biggest change since our last visit is the new paint job applied to rock formations that extend from the front of the building, but there are still other small additions to check out. Let's take a close look at this particular area.

The view of the area from Toon Lagoon:

The painted rockwork:

Notice the attention to details:

The face near the main entrance of the building looks very menacing:

Another face is taking shape on top of the building:

The mountain range:

A small section of the building is still mostly unthemed:

Even more details can be seen from above:

That is all for now. Be on the lookout for more updates covering the rest of the Universal Orlando Resort.

  5. I have to say, having not been to Universal in a very long time, and spending a full day going through both parks, I'm underwhelmed. 99.9% of their rides are roller coasters or motion simulators. They're good, some great, but there's not much variety, and really not all that many rides, especially in the studios. I hope this goes more HP:FJ and less Gringots.

  6. I overheard Universal workers talking on a bus a couple weeks ago on their way home and they seemed convinced that there's going to be animatronics and not just screens. Something to consider.

  7. Fun to see the layers and the build up to the outer surface.

Their rock work looks to be heavily panelized, generic. This is quicker and cheaper than what Disney usually does/promotes: i.e. hand sculpted this and that, each rock individual.

One of those instances where cheap & expedient, is good enough.

I'm hoping the atmosphere around the outside has the right amount of fog shrouded isle spookiness.

It looks like real rock to me.
That's all that matters. I don't care about hand sculpted rocks.

Really?? There's moss on the individual rocks in places. It looks a lot like real skull island to me. I think it looks brilliant.

  11. The rock work on Kong is all hand sculpted. Someone above doesn't know what they're talking about. It's rebar and sculpted concrete. Just like how everyone does it.

  12. And Disney has more screen based simulator attractions than Universal.

    Tough to be a bug,
    Mickey's Philharmagic
    Japan
    Canada
    France
    China
    Soarin'
    Mission Space
    Toy Story
    Star Tours
    etc.
