Sorcerer's Hat Demolition Update: A Few Days Left

The demolition of the Sorcerer's Hat icon continues at a very fast pace at Hollywood Studios. From what we have seen, it looks like only a week might be left until the entire structure gets completely removed; that said, we expect walls to remain up for a while, as work continues to install a new, temporary stage (that is the current rumor) as well as a new planter. Take a look at these photos, which show the status of the project as of Sunday, February 22, 2015:

Hollywood Boulevard:

What a beautiful sight:

All that is left is a ring:

Let's walk around the construction area:

As you might have noticed, the structure that was inside the ring-shaped base has been removed:

A pipe extends from the side of the circular base:

We expect to see more progress today:

The Chinese Theater will soon dominate the area:

Disney characters still meet by the hat:

Thanks for coming:

And that is all for now. Thank you for your support, and see you again real soon!

  1. The Chinese Theater is looking rather dingy these days. I hope they can power wash or repaint it soon.

  2. My fear is that if they put a stage there, lighting rigs will block the view of the theater.

While the theater is a great focal point, it is still strange not to see the hat. At first I was thrilled the hat was going, but now it looks rather empty without it. A nice fountain or something should take its place.

Wouldn't it be awesome if they turned it into a "mini" World of Color where during the day they would run short fountain shows and then in the evening they would add the color. Just something to bring a little life to the area but not big enough to cause people to wait around and see it.

I honestly wish they would give this park the DCA makeover treatment. It has some insane rides. While not having many rides, this park holds three of my top five favorite rides. However, everything else in this park is lacking. The layout is really wonky compared to the other parks. The themes are not well defined. It is lacking in the ride department even though it has some of the best Disney has ever done. Disney needs to throw a ton of money at this park to really update the whole park like DCA. Hopefully it will happen if they decide to add Star Wars to the park sort of like when they added Carsland to DCA.

  4. I was too young pre-BAH to remember what the area looked like, so was there anything in that area before?

  5. Before the hat, the park's central plaza only had a beautiful planter with palm trees, flowers, and a topiary. It was really nice.
