Polynesian Village Resort: Name Change and Rehabs

This week, Disney’s Polynesian Resort began the transition to its new name, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The name harkens back to the nomenclature at the resort’s opening back in 1971 and sets the stage for the future of the property. The name change is just one of the many exciting changes taking place at the resort. The resort is currently undergoing a multi-year refurbishment and expansion that will incorporate aspects of its Disney heritage and tropical theming.

Here's a quick overview of the current work being done around Disney's Polynesian Village Resort:

The Nanea Volcano Pool and waterslide are currently closed for enhancement. The leisure pool, the Polynesian East Pool, will continue to remain open for Guest convenience. In addition, as a reminder, one complimentary visit to Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is available to each Guest. Each member of the party needs to bring his/her own MagicBand to the water park. The MagicBand is required to confirm the Resort reservation and issue the Guest a complimentary admission and towel rentals.

The Barefoot Pool Bar will be temporarily closed during the refurbishment of the Nanea Volcano Pool. Beverages will be available for purchase at the Polynesian East Pool during this time.

Capt. Cook's has been temporarily relocated, and the newly refurbished location is expected to reopen this summer. In the meantime, Guests will be able to visit Capt. Cook's as a temporary quick-service dining location in the Great Ceremonial House. Capt. Cook's will be operating from 6:00 a.m. -4:00 a.m. and will have modified menu items in its temporary location.

Moana Mickey’s Arcade is closed. Arcadia Games located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and The Game Station at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will continue to be available for our Guests enjoyment.

Construction work is taking place behind the Great Ceremonial House. Please direct Guests to use the side entrances or porte cochere.

Kona Island will be temporarily closed beginning Friday, August 8. Guests may visit Capt. Cook's for Quick-Service food and beverage items.

  1. I like the return to the retro name. Perhaps Epcot can follow suit and return to Epcot Center.
