3-D Flyovers of Resorts Added to My Disney Experience

A new feature on the official website of the Walt Disney World Resort lets Guests take an animated “magic carpet ride” from Magic Kingdom Park to explore nearby Disney resorts. The Walt Disney Parks and Resorts team used three dimensional-mapping technology to gives Guests a detailed, topographical look at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Each animated video is less than two minutes long.

“It helps Guests see the resorts in scale and in proximity to the theme parks and monorails,” said Project Director Dan Hamer-Hodges. “They get a 360-degree view of their resort in a close-up way that they can’t get from a map.”

In addition to offering a new, fantastic point of view, the animated resort tours are complemented by an informative narration that describe each resort’s theme, architecture, unique offerings and transportation options.

Associate Design Director Ken Oelerich, who also helped design the maps found on My Disney Experience, www.DisneyWorld.com and www.Disneyland.com, said WDPRO is starting with Magic Kingdom resorts but hope to offer this feature for all theme parks and resorts at the Walt Disney World Resort.
