More Details about Animal Kingdom's "Winged Encounters"

As we have already reported in the past, Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park Guests can now see a blur of brilliant color flying just overhead several times each day, as about 20 macaws make their way around the Tree of Life and land on a perch in Discovery Island as part of a new daytime show. This evening we have some new information to share in regards to this entertaining addition, aptly called “Winged Encounters—The Kingdom Takes Flight.”:

Beginning soon, special announcements will be made over the speakers around Discovery Island, inviting Guests to view “Winged Encounters—The Kingdom Takes Flight,” which will start just four or five minutes later (after the announcement). The new animal experience with flocks of macaws flying over and around Discovery Island is being performed daily at 9:15 and 10:15 a.m., as well as 1 and 2 p.m. Shows are subject to change and, at this time, are still not being printed in the Times Guide for Guests.

Guests can fully enjoy this experience especially from the following spots:
  • Across from Flame Tree Barbecue
  • Near the bridge to DinoLand U.S.A.
  • Over the Tree of Life.
As a reminder, there are six types of macaws in the experience: hyacinth, green-winged, blue and gold, scarlet, blue-throated and military. The macaws, with wingspans of up to 60 inches, fly over Discovery Island and land on a perch near the DinoLand U.S.A. bridge. During the up-close encounters, avian experts share conservation stories about the macaws, the majority of which are endangered in their native Central and South America.
