Disney's Hollywood Studios Expansion: The Plot Thickens

In the past few days there has been a lot of activity among theme park fans, especially in regards to the now-dormant Disney's Hollywood Studios. In fact, just a few days ago, it was confirmed that The American Idol Experience would close in January 2015. That came as a surprise to many, even though the contract between Disney and Fremantle Media was originally going to expire in 2015 anyway. But now there's more. New, interesting rumors are going around...

It turns out that multiple sources are now "confirming" that the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is now also closing soon; as soon as the end of this year. A question arises, though: If it is indeed closing, why there was no information or a memo shared with the Cast Members working at that show? In fact, it looks like the Cast Members working at The American Idol Experience have already been notified about the attraction's closure, and that's supposed to happen after the closure of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.

Also, how will they handle crowds visiting Disney's Hollywood Studios having an entire land (Echo Lake) completely walled off? This park already has huge capacity issues during special events. Imagine the horrible situations that may arise during the months of December, January, and next year's Star Wars Weekends!

But that's still not all. In fact, just a few days ago, an anonymous source shared a rumor with us that we quickly dismissed as "yet another confirmation of blue-sky projects." That said, we thought we should share it now, as it seems like the pieces of this intricate puzzle are starting to fit, one by one:

"Now, I will start off by saying I do not know how true this is, just things I have heard from friends inside the park. They said that Star Wars Land is back on the table, as they have been alerted about changes in their shifts for construction. After finding out more information, it is rumored to be two new rides - Battling coaster, rebels vs empire, and a dark ride that goes through greatest scenes from all movies - and then a restaurant, shopping, and all around theming

Also, a new attraction for Pixar Place is rumored, but no more info on that was gathered.

Thanks, hope this is true and hoped it helped!" - ANONYMOUS.

This rumor is starting to become more and more interesting. Have they finally realized that they need to do something more with the Star Wars franchise? More importantly, have they finally discovered that Disney's Hollywood Studios is in dire need of new additions to keep the park fresh and interesting? We'll see what happens.

NOTE: Please, make sure to understand that these rumors did NOT originate from us or any of our close sources. They are to be taken with a grain of salt, and be considered just what they are - mere rumors. Thank you.

  1. Really hope they don't get rid of the Indiana Jones Spectacular. That's my favorite show.

Well, I wouldn't say "finally realized." They didn't by SW just to have it - obviously there are people working on concepts, designs, etc, and when conditions are right, there will be construction.

I have no problem with Echo being blocked for something new - that's just the way it goes.

Jones is long in the tooth, but fun. On the other hand, Universal is building a King Kong attraction. Yeah, that mega blockbuster everyone's always talking about King Kong..so, Indy fans, it could be worse! :)

  3. A Star Wars character dining experience - now that WOULD be popular!

  4. I hope this is all true. I've seen Indy several times, and while I enjoy it, "sacrificing" it to get a Star Wars Land would be an easy decision if it were mine to make. With 3 new Star Wars films in the works (as is the case for Avatar I believe), it seems it would make a lot of sense to proceed with a plan like this. We'll find out eventually.

The bottom line is all the investment Universal is making is forcing Disney to respond. In the end, as fans we all win.

    1. Thanks for sharing, Steven, but most of those rumors sound even more far-fetched than the ones that were shared with us. We are sure 90% of those will not happen. We can keep hoping, though.

  7. I really hope this is true. I was really bummed out reading that the Star Wars plans seemed to be all about Disneyland. I just couldn't understand that when they don't have Star Wars Weekends. It only makes sense for DHS to have a Star Wars land given it hosts that big event every year.

  8. Im all for a star wars themed land, but only if DHS got another ride as well. I would fine with another Pixar ride. Although i would love to have an Indy ride for DHS, preferably a new unique one not like Paris' or Disneylands
